Valve has launched a new feature called Achievement Sets in the Steam client beta. Developers can now group achievements into separate sets, while progress tied to DLC and seasonal events will no longer interfere with completion stats for the base game. The update is already available to players who opt into the beta, with Portal 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Euro Truck Simulator 2, Forza Horizon 5, and Crusader Kings III among the first games to support it.Image unavailableThe idea is simple: instead of one endless list of achievements, players now get named sets defined by the developers themselves. These could be separate collections for the single-player campaign and multiplayer, for example, or a set for each character class. Every set has its own progress bar, and players who complete one receive a commemorative "set complete" trophy on their profile. Portal 2 already provides a classic example, neatly dividing its achievements between single-player and co-op.The update tackles a frustration familiar to every achievement hunter. Previously, new DLC achievements could lower a game's overall completion percentage even after a player had finished everything in the base game. Now achievements from paid expansions can go into separate sets marked in purple. They do not count toward overall progress before the DLC is purchased, and are tracked separately afterward. Seasonal events work in much the same way: developers can archive their sets when a holiday event ends without continually disrupting the main game's completion stats.
