All Gunter Quests in Graveyard Keeper 2: Necronomicon, Zombies, and Portal Fragments

Gunter is the Astrologer in Graveyard Keeper 2 whom you meet after clearing the road to the port. His questline gradually unlocks zombie workers, the Panic Reduction system, the Printing Press, and the Necronomicon. Later in the game, Gunter's tower also becomes the starting point for restoring the magical portal. This guide covers all of Gunter's quests, reputation requirements, and the portal fragments connected to his storyline.

Friendship Written in the Stars

First, complete Herbert's initial counterattack and meet Jack near the bridge in the liberated part of the port. He will tell you about the Astrologer, who lives in an unusual tower nearby. You do not need to finish Jack's investigation at the warehouse before meeting Gunter, so you can head straight to the tower. The previous stage is covered in detail in our walkthrough of all Jack's quests.Inside, the Astrologer introduces himself as Mysterious Guntarius, although from then on you can simply call him Gunter. During your first conversation, make sure to ask about Comet's Tail, zombies, and his small favor. Comet's Tail is required to summon Wispy, but Gunter does not simply give you one during the conversation. You can buy it from him through the trading menu or purchase it from the Apothecary.After asking about the zombies, you will learn that Gunter has three more workers he is willing to give you in exchange for a favor. The Astrologer left his Deck of Cards with Linda, so head to the Dockside Club and continue Linda's questline. You first need to restore one of the town's trading posts, after which the club owner will give you the required item.Return to the tower with the Deck of Cards and hand it to Gunter. You will receive 10 reputation, Town Gratitude, and a Story. A new dialogue option about the zombies will then become available. Agree to take the workers, leave the tower, and finish the short conversation with Gunter about the next ceremony, then return home. Congregation Trouble

After obtaining the zombies, hold another sermon. Once you close the results window, Gunter will appear in the church and explain that attendance has dropped because people are panicking about the undead. Finish the conversation and return to his tower.The Astrologer will suggest improving your public image and ask for a Charged hypno-device. His shop will receive new stock, including a regular Hypno-device, while the charging recipe becomes available at the Formulation Bench. It requires 1 Hypno-device and 1 Faith, with Alchemy Mastery 2 required for crafting.Take the Charged hypno-device to Gunter, then hold another sermon. Once you close the results window, the next scene will begin. The device will not solve the problem completely, but your relationship with the Astrologer will increase by 10, and the Panic Reduction system will become available near the port. Rhyme and Printed

After testing the hypno-device, Gunter decides to improve public opinion through print and unlocks the recipe for his poetry book. By this point, you should have 20 reputation with him, which is enough to access the Newspaper Technology once the relevant branch of the Technology Tree is available.Research Newspaper for 30 red, 10 green, and 20 blue tech points, then build a Printing Press in the writing area. Construction requires 3 Oiled Beams, 2 Bronze Gears, and 6 Iron Details. You can finish the structure with a Hammer once you have Building Mastery 2.To make Printed Poetry, prepare 1 Blank Softcover Notebook, 2 Ink, and 1 gold-quality Story. The recipe requires Book Writing Mastery 4. If you do not yet have a suitable Story, combine lower-quality ones at the Writing Desk until you obtain the required quality.Give Printed Poetry to Gunter. You will receive 10 reputation, Town Gratitude, and another Story. The Astrologer will then decide that his PR campaign needs a more appealing public face. He gives you a PR Agreement and sends you to Jack.

Stars, Lies, & Contracts

Find Jack at the Town Warehouse or Town Workshop and offer him the role of campaign frontman. The first conversation consumes the PR Agreement, but you need 60 reputation with Jack before he will sign it. If you have not reached the requirement yet, continue his questline and return later.Once you have the Signed PR Agreement, take it back to Gunter. The document will be consumed, your relationship with the Astrologer will increase by another 10, and you will also receive Town Gratitude.

The Ingenious Gentleman Don Keyote

During the Donkey's questline, you will learn that Gunter knows where to find the Necronomicon. Go to the tower and ask him about the book. The first dialogue option requires 20 reputation, but the Astrologer will say he is too busy with your PR campaign and ask you to return later.The second conversation requires 30 reputation. By this point, you can conveniently reach the required amount by returning the cards, testing the hypno-device, and delivering the poetry book. Ask about the Necronomicon again, and Gunter will finally give it to you along with 10 reputation, Story II, and the Forbidden Knowledge achievement.The book is required for the zombie resurrection storyline, but you do not need to study it to unlock the corresponding Technology. Any Portal in a Storm

Later, Larry suggests asking Gunter about the old magical portal. The Astrologer explains that one of the people involved in activating it now lives among the monks at the Royal Foundry beneath the old bathhouse. The foundry can be reached through the water tunnel near the port floodgate, whose mechanism Jack knows about.After the conversation, you receive Story II. The route does not open immediately. You must first continue Herbert's military campaign and Jack's questline until access to the foundry becomes available. Once you reach the Bishop, the search for the seven portal fragments begins. Destiny Polls

Once the election begins, return to Gunter and offer to have him work on the candidates' PR campaign. The first dialogue option requires 45 reputation, while the follow-up requires 50. The first conversation does not award the missing five points, so complete one of Gunter's previous tasks first if necessary.At 50 reputation, Gunter agrees to handle the PR campaign. To continue the election storyline, you need similar support from Linda and Herbert, so use the walkthrough of all Linda's quests and the walkthrough of all Herbert's quests if necessary.

The Hungry Cosmos

After the Royal Foundry opens, the Bishop uses the Magic Mirror, which points toward Gunter. The entire preceding stage involving the Sloth fragment is covered in detail in our walkthrough of the Bishop's quests.Return to the tower and ask Gunter about the portal fragments. He gives you the Gluttony fragment without any persuasion, increasing your reputation with him by 10. The Astrologer also admits that he once sold another fragment to a merchant, which starts the next quest.Immediately install the Gluttony fragment in the portal frame inside the tower. The item disappears from your inventory, and the Keeper receives Story I.

High Price

The next fragment is connected to the Trademaster at the Main Pier. Ask him about the portal and you will learn that the required item is still aboard a merchant ship and can only be purchased on a specific day of the week.Wait for Lust day, which is also the day Linda's concert takes place, and bring 1 gold coin. Pay the Trademaster to receive the Lust fragment, then return to Gunter's tower and install it in the portal frame. You will gain another 10 reputation with the Astrologer and receive Story I.Installing Lust opens several story branches at once: the search for the green fragment, the portal fragment held by Jack, and the next stage of Gunter's PR campaign. If you have already completed Finding Old God, the related Red Eye storyline will also begin in parallel.

Green Fragment

After installing Lust, return to the already liberated Sluice Area. A new interaction point appears among the debris that previously could not be cleared. Remove it to obtain the Envy fragment.Take the fragment back to the tower and install it in the portal frame. Envy will be consumed, and you will receive Story I. If the debris remains inactive, make sure the Sluice Area has already been cleared of zombies and that Lust is actually installed in the portal.

Why Don't You Like Me?

At the same time, Gunter asks you to raise the town's Happiness to 100. Happiness is capped by Town Quality, so reaching the target is impossible while Town Quality is below 100. Continue restoring the town, developing trading posts, and using the available sources of Happiness until both values are high enough.Once you reach 100 Happiness, talk to Gunter about the goal of the PR campaign. The value is not consumed by the check, and your relationship with the Astrologer increases by another 10. More Portal Parts

Installing Lust also opens Jack's related quest. He has the Pride fragment, but you first need 60 reputation to ask him about it and then 80 before he agrees to hand it over. All intermediate requirements are covered in our walkthrough of all Jack's quests.Once you receive the Pride fragment, install it in the portal frame in Gunter's tower and collect Story I. After both this quest and Gunter's 100 Happiness requirement are complete, sleeping again unlocks a joint quest for the two characters.

I Love You, Man

Go to sleep, then head to the Main Pier. There, you will find Jack and Gunter, who have finally reconciled and are working together to restore the colossus. After the scene, you unlock the Two Broken Souls achievement and two new gift recipes.For Jack, craft a Prosthetic Hand from 1 Engineering Detail, 1 Steel Screw, and 1 Special Wood. Gunter needs a Small Printing Press made from 2 Engineering Details and 1 Steel Screw. Both items are crafted at the Steel Anvil. Each gift awards 10 reputation with the corresponding character and 3 Town Gratitude.If you later decide to keep the Red Eye, these gifts also count toward the alternative Old God preparation route. After handing them over, the normal progression path brings both Gunter and Jack to 90 reputation.

Even More Portal Parts

Once five fragments have been installed in the portal frame, the Magic Mirror points to the sixth. Go to the Inquisition Base near your home and clear the newly active debris to obtain the Wrath fragment.Return to Gunter and install Wrath. You will then learn that the seventh and final fragment is inside the palace, and the investigation will lead you to Davy the Dagger. Gluttony and Pride

Gunter's final quest begins during Eye, Red Eye. Find him with Jack near the Main Pier and ask them to help restore the portal. The requirement depends on the choice you made in the Old God storyline.If you returned the Red Eye, you only need 90 reputation with both Gunter and Jack. If you kept the item, both characters need 100 reputation, which adds another gift stage. Craft an Elegant Prosthetic Hand for Jack using 2 Engineering Details, 2 Steel Screws, and 2 Special Wood. Once you give it to him, both characters gain the missing 10 reputation.After you pass the reputation check, Gunter and Jack agree to help restore the portal. You also need the support of Linda and Albert, as well as Agatha and Herbert. Once all three pairs are ready, you can proceed to The Last Battle and the Graveyard Keeper 2 finale.The final Greed fragment is obtained from another Keeper after the assault on the palace.
