The Medium 100% Walkthrough: All Puzzles and Solutions

The Medium is a psychological horror game in which you play as a woman with supernatural abilities. One of its defining features is the split-screen mechanic: at certain points, you control Marianne simultaneously in the material world and her spirit form in the Spirit World. As you progress through The Medium, you will encounter various collectibles, story items, and puzzles.

Jack's Apartment: Where to Find the Tie Clip

In the apartment, you can find:

• Jack's Tie Clip (story item).
• A photo of Jack that can be developed in a separate room.
• Cat food to feed the cat in the kitchen.
• Photos and notes.

Jack's Tie Clip is in his room beneath the clock. Activate Marianne's Insight and find it.

Funeral Home

At the Funeral Home, do the following:

• Take the key from the desk in the office.
• Unlock the door and go down into the basement.
• Pull out the drawer containing Jack's body.
• Take the tie from the stool and combine it with the Tie Clip.
• Put the tie on Jack's body.
• Return to the office and watch the cutscene.

Niwa Resort

Reaching the resort is straightforward. Climb over the fence and follow the road. When Marianne's abilities activate, find the source of Spirit Energy in the other world, then restore the power.

How to Enter the Hotel

There is a large parking lot in front of the building. On the left is a car whose hood can be opened from the driver's side. Take the screwdriver and use it on the door with the missing handle. Push out the dumpster, then climb onto it.

How to Reach the Third Floor of the Hotel

Run to the far-left side of the building and inspect the gate in the hallway. After the cutscene, return to the desk, inspect the bell, and use Marianne's ability. Find the source of Spirit Energy on the first floor, use an Out-of-Body Experience, and recharge your Spirit Energy. Enter the elevator and go to the second or third floor. It will stop either way. Leave your body again and use Spirit Blast on the electrical box.

How to Reach the Manager's Office

On the third floor, find the key in the Spirit World and use it to unlock the door. Go down to the second floor, where you will see a large hole in the floor, then cross the ledge on the balcony in the Spirit World. In the bathroom, pick up the Razor Blade. Use it here to cut open the passage into the room. You will need the Dried Up Sunflower to restore the Spirit Well in the previous room. Recharge your energy and use Spirit Shield to get past the moths in the corridor.

Head up to the third floor and pass through another swarm of moths. At the end of the corridor, find the manager's office on the left.

How to Solve the Clock Puzzle

In the office, take the Small Key from the desk beneath the flashlight and use it on the clock. Moving the hands changes the state of the Spirit World at different points in time. Turn the hand back toward the earliest point and collect Spirit Energy near the desk. Move the hand forward slightly, find the passage into the room, and restore power. Use Insight on the photograph in the cabinet, press the button, and enter the secret room. Develop the photograph and enter the Spirit World.

How to Escape the Monster

Run forward, then right, right again, and left. After another right turn, you will reach a fork. Turn left here or the creature will catch you. Stay crouched and move toward the exit. If it catches you, use your Spirit Energy to break free.

How to Free the Souls and Find the Bolt Cutters

First, make your way to the western part of the building. Pass through the pool and find the Bolt Cutters behind a locked gate at the far end of the hallway. Go back and interact with the stairs. Follow the Spirit Trail, find several toys and the White Cat Figurine. Return to the mirror and move into the other reality. Find the trapped soul. Recharge your Spirit Energy, pick up the child's mask in the room on the left, and free the spirit. Hide in the auditorium from the Maw and make your way to the observation room.

After activating the next mirror, you will find two more trapped souls blocking the way. On the upper level, pick up the Mask of a Man and return to the material world.How to free the man (how to learn his name):

• Go up to the conference room and interact with the ashtray on the table at the far end.
• You learn that the man was sitting opposite Boris, whose seat is number 9.
• Check the seats and determine that the man was sitting in chair No. 4.
• Check the attendee list and identify the man as Nicholas.

How to free the woman (how to learn her name):

• In the observation room, find the key near the sink.
• In the neighboring room, travel through the mirror and reach the manager's room, where there is another mirror.
• Use it to reach the woman's apartment, find half of a notebook page with phone numbers on the floor, place it back into the notebook, and call the final number.
• Inspect the bracelet on the dressing table and collect the Mask of a Woman in the Spirit World. The mask is in the bathroom.

After freeing both souls, run through the newly opened passage and return to the material world. Pick up the Bolt Cutters, then go down to the first floor and enter the Dayroom.

How to Solve the Globe Puzzle

Leave your body, run into the room on the right, and pick up the missing globe piece, the equator. Run to the globe room on the far left and insert it. The eyes should be at the top, the mouth at the bottom, and the nose, formed by the equator, in the middle.

Rotate the globe to the left until you can reach the balcony in both the material and Spirit Worlds. Enter the neighboring room and take the key to the far-right room, which is locked in the material world. Go inside and collect the first piece of Sheet Music. Find the second and third pieces of Sheet Music in the central room. Combine them and place the completed Sheet Music on the piano. Recharge your Spirit Energy so you can pass the moths. Go down the stairs and find the following items:

• Painting.
• Doll.
• Ribbon.
• Wheelchair.

Free Richard: How to Defeat the Tentacle

Inside the house, find the father's knife, run to his office, and interact with every active object. The last one is a burned telegram in the fireplace. A coffin containing Spirit Energy will appear on the table. Enter the painting and explore the maze.

How to Defeat the Tentacle

Return to the hall, go up to the second floor, and find the tentacle. Bring it any three objects from the room. When it starts attacking, block the strikes with your shield. After the third hit, the tentacle will die.In the neighboring room, recharge your Spirit Energy and head toward the next painting. After returning from the memories, climb to the upper floor and inspect the final painting. You will find Richard here and complete the chapter.

Forest and Ruins: How to Open the Garage Door

Make your way through the forest, find the dog, and follow it. Search the tent with the body and collect several optional items. Run from the monster and reach the ruins. Move through the ruins and get outside. Find the generator and the gas can, then climb higher. Hide from the monster, cross to the other side, and find the gate lever. Use it to open the gate, fill the generator with fuel, and start it. Push the generator toward the monster.

Reach the shed with the garage. Find the doll inside and place it next to the other dolls outside. Recharge your Spirit Energy. Leave Marianne's material-world body beside the switch in the garage, then use her spirit form to climb into the attic and turn on the light. Pick up the pipe and use it to open the door.

Make your way upward and enter the interrogation room. Find the reel-to-reel tape, place it in the player, and listen to the recording. Go through the newly opened door and reach the meat processing room. The door requires Spirit Energy to open. Turn right and avoid the searchlight. Use Spirit Shield if necessary. Climb higher and find the butcher's knife and Henry's note. Recharge your Spirit Energy, return to the door, and open it.

Pass through the interrogation room again and listen to the reel-to-reel recording. Reach the very end, collapse the bookshelves onto the monster, and find the man.

Red House: How to Solve the Photo, Mirror, and Butterfly Puzzles

Find the three photographs and place them on the fireplace in this order:

• Wedding photo on the left.
• Photo of the pregnant wife in the middle.
• Photo with the two children on the right.

Use the mirror. In the dining room, collect the Red Butterfly and Mask of Joy. Move the Toy Mirror in the dollhouse to the bedroom on the left. Find the Toy Fish, Blue Butterfly, and Mask of Calm. In the bedroom on the right, place the fish on the toy mobile and collect the White Butterfly. At the far end of the room, collect the Yellow Butterfly.Take the Mask of Wonder and return to the bedroom on the left.

The code for the military door in the Red House basement can be worked out with Insight. Read the inscription in the watch case inside the locked cabinet, then focus on the keypad beside the door. 

Pump Station Puzzle: How to Drain the Water in The Medium

Head down and find the source of Spirit Energy in the eastern wing. You can reach it only in spirit form. Restore the power and find the pump control room. First, pump the water out of the western wing. Go down there and open the valve on the tank. Then drain the eastern wing, find the valve wheel in the locked cabinet using the Bolt Cutters, and open the valve on that tank as well. Return to the control room. Move the excess water so that the remaining water is stored in the western wing. The central and eastern wings should both be drained.

How to Kill the Monster

Use the eastern wing to reach the central section and encounter the monster. Leave your body, run through the only door in spirit form, and return to the material world. Interact with the switch to the left of the gate to kill the creature.

You Need to Hit the Switch in Time to Kill the Monster

Find the burned-out fuse and restore the power. Collect all three mirror shards and interact with the restored mirror. Run to the lake and watch the final cutscene to finish the game.
