ASPIS, a story-driven first-person sci-fi horror game from DreamWire Games, launches on Steam today, October 23. The project began as a solo development effort and went on to win first place at IGROPROM Online 2026 as well as the Best Solo Developer award. Set in the Soviet Union in 1987, the game follows an experiment involving a machine designed to predict the future, which opens a path to a place where the familiar laws of reality no longer apply.
The story revolves around an experiment with ASPIS, short for Autonomous System for Predicting Historical Events. Six volunteers were connected to it, and a year after the experiment began, not one of them had woken up. The protagonist, an engineer named Andrey, agreed to take part in the experiment for a chance to see his deceased wife and daughter again. He awakens amid distorted versions of the institute, other people's memories, and places the machine was never supposed to discover. The story unfolds through the environment, documents, and cutscenes, and players will have to choose between two endings at the conclusion. The gameplay combines exploration, puzzles, chases, and combat. OGAS terminals help reconstruct the experiment's timeline, while the PEP-01 device lets you transfer energy, power up Soviet machinery, and interact with astral windows. These windows allow you to retrieve objects from another layer of reality. Some monsters can be killed with a Makarov pistol or improvised weapons, but the silent Guardian must be escaped rather than fought, forcing you to run and look for alternative routes. The game launches today on Steam.
