According to an estimate by analytics company Sensor Tower, players had placed more than 6 million digital preorders for Grand Theft Auto VI on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S by October 13. After accounting for refunds, that amounts to roughly 6.08 million copies and around $594 million in revenue before sales have even officially begun. The game launches on November 19, 2026, a little over a month from now.PlayStation 5 accounts for around 4.51 million preorders, or roughly 74% of all copies and more than $441 million in revenue. Xbox Series X|S has approximately 1.57 million preorders worth $153 million. Sensor Tower has tracked the game's digital sales since June 25, 2026, and the growth chart speaks for itself. The sharpest spike came in the first few days after preorders opened, while a second noticeable jump followed Rockstar's late-August gameplay showcase, which premiered exclusively on Netflix.Image unavailableSensor Tower estimates that almost 90% of orders are for the $100 Ultimate Edition, even though premium editions usually account for just 10% to 20% of preorders. With average spending of around $97 to $98 per copy, preorder revenue has already covered the project's estimated $150 million marketing budget. The money brought in from preorders alone is comparable to the cost of an entire Hollywood franchise. Analysts are not hiding how high expectations have become: one forecast suggests GTA VI could sell as many as 25 million copies in its first day and reach 85 million within two months. Those figures are projections, however, not established sales totals.
