GTA 6 development leads told Bloomberg that the studio will no longer spend years rebuilding its technology from scratch. They say the engine, tools, and team assembled for the sixth game will allow Rockstar to release future titles much faster. The executives aren't under any illusions, though. Thirteen years have passed between GTA 5 and GTA 6, and the latter has spent more than eight years in development and suffered two delays. During that time, Rockstar's workforce grew from 2,441 employees around the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 to 4,711 across 12 offices.Image unavailableArt director Aaron Garbut, one of the project's three game directors, confirmed that the hardest technical work is already behind them. "We foundationally changed a lot of stuff on this project. But now it's done, and we're not going to rip it apart," he said. According to Garbut, the previous 30 years of development led up to this project, so there is no reason to rebuild the production process all over again. The executives did not say what Rockstar will make next. It could be a full-fledged GTA 7 or Red Dead Redemption 3. Smaller games could also make for a quicker release.
