99 Nights in the Forest Trick or Treat Guide: All Costumes, Candy, and Rewards

Trick or Treat in 99 Nights in the Forest is a Halloween event built around costumes, nighttime visits to houses, and Candy you can trade for rewards. The people answering the doors are not always happy to see you, though, and you'll need to put together a fresh outfit after every visit. Here's how to take part in the event, find all six costumes, earn more Candy, and decide what to buy from Happy's shop.

How to Start Trick or Treat

Before starting a run, talk to Happy in the lobby and open the Halloween shop. It's worth deciding which reward you're saving up for right away, since you'll need Candy for both decorations and festive animal skins. Then head into the forest. The event is available during regular runs over Halloween. You don't have to complete the earlier quest to rescue Happy to take part.On the first day, focus on your campfire, food, and finding costume pieces. Check chests along the way and make a mental note of nearby houses with Halloween decorations. You only need to wear one costume piece to earn Candy, so there's no need to wait until you have a complete outfit before your first visit. We wouldn't recommend knocking with no costume at all, though. You'll get a trick instead of a treat.
There isn't a single final quest that awards everything at once. During the day, you'll collect outfits and plan your route. At night, you'll visit houses, then spend your earnings between runs. Candy stays on your account after you die or start a new run. Collected costume pieces do not carry over to the next run.

Where to Find Costumes and How to Use the Costume Closet

Look for Costume Boxes while exploring the forest. Check around cabins, ruins, and other buildings, since there are no fixed coordinates that work for every run. Extra pieces can appear in chests or drop from wolves and cultists. Some animals carrying Halloween loot have orange bats around them, while costume pieces on cultists are highlighted.
At camp, build a Costume Closet through the crafting bench menu. The pieces you collect are automatically added to your collection, and you can choose what to wear from the closet. Check its four slots and put together whatever outfit you have available. If you've collected every piece of one set, use the button that equips the whole outfit.Once you've built the closet, you can also change outfits using its icon beside the map. This is especially handy at night. After visiting one house, open the menu, choose your next outfit, and keep going. You won't need to return to the campfire after every knock. Just make sure your collection contains enough pieces for all the visits you have planned.

All Costumes in Trick or Treat

The event features six themed sets with four pieces each. Check the set name in the Costume Closet. You need all four pieces from the same theme to receive the full bonus. Here's what each costume includes:
  • Astronaut: Helmet, Suit, Boots, and Jetpack.
  • Dinosaur: Hood, Body, Tail, and Feet.
  • Lobster: Head, Body, Claws, and Legs.
  • Mummy: Head Wraps, Body Wraps, Leg Wraps, and Scarab Brooch.
  • Pirate: Hat, Shirt, Boots, and Hook.
  • Werewolf: Hood, Shirt, Tail, and Legs.
You can mix pieces from different sets. For example, you can wear a Lobster head with a Pirate shirt if you haven't found anything else. That outfit will still earn Candy, but a complete matching set pays better. So if you're only missing one Mummy or Astronaut piece, we recommend saving the other three and spending a little more time looking for it.

How to Visit Houses and Get Candy

Find a house with Halloween decorations and check its entrance. If you need a Halloween Candle to finish decorating the doorway, bring one and place it beside the door using the interaction prompt. Candles can be found in chests and among cultist drops. You can prepare the entrance during the day, but come back for treats after dark.Put on a costume, walk up to the door, and press the interact button, which is E on PC. The resident will inspect your outfit and either give you a treat or play a trick on you. Wait for the result and check how much Candy you received. You can't immediately knock on the same door again. After a visit, the house goes on cooldown, which you'll see if you try interacting with it again. Now open the Costume Closet and change your outfit. Costume pieces are consumed when you visit a house, so a single complete Werewolf outfit won't keep you supplied with Candy throughout the run. If you rush straight to the next house, you might arrive without a costume. Check all four slots before knocking, especially when you're trying to visit several houses in one night.

How Much Candy Does Each Costume Give?

Every equipped piece earns one Candy before additional bonuses. Four mismatched pieces give four Candy, while a full matching set gives eight, with four Candy from the pieces and another four for completing the set. That makes it better to save your Pirate pieces until you have the whole outfit rather than use them one at a time. Still, there's no need to wait for a perfect costume throughout the entire run. Spare mismatched pieces can help you start building up your Candy supply.Class bonuses and the visit itself can increase the final amount. Check the reward calculation after knocking. Eight Candy is the baseline for a full set, not an absolute limit in every situation. If you're saving for the Alpha Wolf skin at 200 Candy, that's equivalent to 25 visits paying eight Candy each. Extra bonuses will shorten the grind, while purchases along the way will push that goal further away.

What to Do When You Get a Trick

Instead of giving you a treat, residents might make your life temporarily harder. They can attach a heavy ball to your leg, reverse your controls, or turn your character into a tiny frog. These effects wear off, but waiting for that to happen in the middle of a wolf pack is a terrible idea. Clear nearby enemies before knocking and leave yourself an escape route back to camp. In co-op, ask a teammate to cover you while you're interacting with the resident.Treats can vary too. Alongside Candy, you might receive food, equipment, or temporary helpful effects. However, no particular house guarantees a specific gun or another valuable item. Choose convenient, safe houses rather than heading to a distant location because someone promised a rare reward there.

How to Farm Candy Faster

During the day, find several houses close together and check the paths between them. Then prepare enough costumes, food, and campfire fuel. At night, start with the nearest house and use the Costume Closet icon to change outfits on your way to the next. You'll spend more time knocking on doors and less time running back across the forest. If you're playing with friends, split up the preparation. One player can handle food and the campfire while the others search for costume pieces. Before heading out at night, check how many complete sets each player has. Start with a short route you could finish alone if a teammate has to return to camp. Prepare new sets for the following night by continuing to open boxes and collect drops from enemies. For extended farming, the event class Fancy Dressed is useful. Happy sells it for 30 Candy. It helps you find more costume pieces and, as you level it up, improves your results from house visits and your Candy earnings. We recommend getting it early if you plan to take part in the event regularly. But if you only want one inexpensive reward, save for that first. Buying the class also uses up your event currency.

All Major Rewards in Happy's Shop

Return to the lobby, speak to Happy, and open the shop. Below are the main purchases available in the first part of Trick or Treat and their prices. The English names will help you find the right items in the shop:
  • Halloween Decor: 10 Candy.
  • Spooky Crock Pot: 25 Candy.
  • Shrapnel Grenade: 30 Candy.
  • Fancy Dressed class (Fancy Dressed Clothes): 30 Candy.
  • Coffin Chair: 30 Candy.
  • Pile of Skulls: 30 to 50 Candy. Check the price in your own shop before buying.
  • Spooky Braziers: 50 Candy.
  • Standing Coffins: 80 Candy.
  • Candy Corn Bunny: 80 Candy.
  • Vampire Alpha Wolf: 200 Candy.
The last two purchases are animal skins. If those are what you want most, hold off on decorating camp until you've saved enough. The Vampire Alpha Wolf is the most expensive reward on this list, so if you're short on time, it's a good main goal to aim for. Happy gradually gets new stock, so check the shop again after updates and look for items marked with a clock icon.

Which Badges Can You Earn During the Event?

Start with three basic challenges that introduce the main Trick or Treat activities. You can check your progress in the quests and badges menu:
  • Candy Collecting: Collect your first Candy.
  • Carving: Carve a face into a pumpkin.
  • Costuming: Visit a house while wearing a complete matching costume set.
To carve a pumpkin, find a Pumpkin Carving Station, bring a pumpkin, and choose a face design. You can take the resulting jack-o'-lantern back to camp. This is a handy daytime activity while you're exploring the map and collecting costume pieces. Save your full costume for nighttime. One house visit will earn you Candy and complete the Costuming requirement.Happy also has an additional Badge Pack. Its challenges include carving 30 pumpkins in one game, placing 30 Halloween decorations at once, visiting houses in all six complete costumes before Night 99, and completing 100 or 500 house visits. For challenges requiring three or four full costumes in a single night, find houses close together and collect several sets in advance. These are easier to plan separately from your first attempt at the event. There's also a secret combination that recreates the Fancy Dressed class outfit: Lobster Head, Mummy Body, Dinosaur Legs, and Pirate Hook. Equip all four pieces and go trick-or-treating to complete the corresponding Badge Pack challenge. That's a separate requirement. For ordinary Candy farming, you should still aim to wear four matching pieces.

What to Do Before the Event Ends

First, earn your initial Candy and the basic badges. Then decide whether you want to buy the class to make further farming easier. After that, save up for your chosen skin or item and spend whatever currency you have left on decorations. That way, you won't have to start saving for an expensive reward all over again after a few impulse purchases.Trick or Treat Part 1 launched on October 17, 2026. Different parts of the Halloween event may have different dates and reward availability windows, so follow the event timer and the labels in Happy's shop. Check any purchases you want before the next update, and keep gathering fresh outfits in the forest. They're the things you'll use up fastest.
