Vashtorr is a tough opponent in Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2, and taking him down is no easy task. You'll need to track his movements, destroy his Healing Pylons, and practically fight the reinforcements for control of the arena. In this guide, we'll cover how to prepare for the final battle, deal with his ground and aerial attacks, locate his healing sources, and approach the fight as Malum Caedo and Nyra Veyrath.

Where to Find the Final Vashtorr Boss Fight

The decisive battle takes place in the God in the Machine level. You encounter Vashtorr earlier in Ascent of the Arkifane, but the campaign continues after that fight. The final encounter takes place in an arena made up of separate islands and connecting paths. First, get a feel for where you can retreat. Looking up at a daemon while trying to find the edge of a platform with your feet is a bad combination.

Preparation: Weapons and Supplies

We recommend saving weapons that are accurate at medium and long range for Vashtorr. Malum can use the Plasma Gun and Heavy Bolter, while Nyra has the Plasma Pistol and her bolt weapons. The Shotgun and Flamer are useful for enemies that get too close. Don't try to hit a hovering boss with a weapon that forces you to stand almost directly beneath him.Clear the opening groups of enemies and collect the available supplies before the main fight. If you find a Machine Spirit, equip the weapon you want to upgrade before picking it up. The bonus applies to the weapon you're holding. Choose something with ammunition you'll actually use. A powerful upgrade won't help much if your plasma weapon is empty.

Vashtorr on the Ground: How to Keep Your Distance

When the boss is at arena level, shoot from a position that leaves you a clear escape route. Whenever he moves, find a new line of fire. We recommend firing in short bursts and checking your surroundings between them. It's easier to spot an enemy approaching from the side that way than while holding down the trigger. If you're getting boxed in, clear an escape route before turning your attention back to the boss.Don't insist on emptying every magazine. It's better to reposition with ammunition left than take a fatal hit for one last shot. Backing toward an edge is especially dangerous, so check the ground behind you before making a long retreat.

Vashtorr in the Air: How to Survive His Barrage

When Vashtorr takes flight, watch the boss himself, not the place where he was standing a moment ago. Use the rock formations to break his line of sight during beam attacks, then emerge from the other side. Don't linger at the edge of cover if he can already hit you there. Leave yourself room to move around it so reinforcements can't trap you against the rocks.Return fire when you have a clear view of the target and enough time to aim. You don't need to chase Vashtorr across the arena or get right up to him. Maintain a comfortable distance and adjust it primarily to stay alive.

Healing Pylons: How to Find and Destroy Them

When Vashtorr starts healing, look for the purple energy link leading to him. Follow it back to a pylon and switch your fire to the source. The pylon has its own target label. Destroy it first, then resume attacking the boss. Otherwise, some of your ammunition will be wasted fighting against his restored health. If the pylon is hidden from view, move to a nearby position while keeping an escape route open. Don't run through a crowd of enemies just to get a direct shot at it. If the healing effect returns, scan the arena again. Destroying one source doesn't mean you can ignore this mechanic for the rest of the fight.

How to Fight as Malum and Nyra

As Malum, save your Chainsword for enemies you can reach safely. Quickly clear out the weaker foes getting in your way, then return to ranged fire. Be mindful of where you'll land when charging an enemy. One cultist isn't worth landing among the rest with your back exposed. As Nyra, use Fervent Slide and the Leap out of it to change positions. After moving, get your aim back on target before firing. Her mobility is especially useful when escaping a crowd, but we wouldn't recommend leaping blindly between islands.

Useful Pickups in the Final Level

If you're short on resources or hunting secrets, check these locations:
  • First large area - A cache behind a small barrier and a crashed aircraft. Shoot the skull near the aircraft to open its rear section.
  • Area after teleporting - Find the giant skull on the wall and shoot its flashing blue eye. The reward will rise from the ground.
  • Boss arena - Check the corner of the ruins, the right side of the building on the middle island, and the left side of the building on the right island.
  • Upper platform on the middle island - Reach it using the jump pad on the right island. This is one of the healing totem positions, and from here you can jump toward a secret on a pillar.
We recommend dealing with nearby threats before going after a pickup. A distant secret won't do you much good if you lose the last of your health getting to it.

What to Do if the Fight Drags On

Check whether you've missed a healing source, then assess your remaining ammunition and the routes still open around the arena. Stop firing from a bad position, clear out the enemies in your way, and move somewhere else. Even when the boss has barely any health left, stick to the same routine. Rushing is more dangerous than taking one more careful shot at him.If you die, select Load Last Save to return to the checkpoint. Use Restart Level only if you want to replay the entire mission. Once you've loaded back in, take a moment to locate Vashtorr, any active healing sources, and the nearest cover before making another attempt.
