The familiar equipment crafting system changes significantly in the Deep North of Valheim. Finding a Mould for a new weapon is not enough. You first need to create a Cast and then harden it in the Frost Foundry. The latter requires Liquid Frost, which must be produced separately.In this guide, we'll explain how to build the Frigid Kiln and Frost Foundry, obtain Liquid Frost, and turn the Moulds you find into finished items.
First, head into the Winding Tunnels and collect Frostcores. Once you've picked up the required resources, the Frigid Kiln recipe will become available.To build it, you need:
Stone - 20;
Frostcore - 10;
Ice - 5.
Ice can be gathered directly in the Deep North, so it's worth collecting it during your first expeditions into the biome.
How to Get Liquid Frost
The Frigid Kiln works similarly to Valheim's other processing structures. Load it with Ice and wait for the process to finish.Producing one unit of Liquid Frost requires five Ice. The kiln can hold up to 25 Ice at once, so a full load produces five Liquid Frost. That's a convenient amount to keep on hand when working with the new casting system.Image unavailable
How to Unlock the Frost Foundry
The Frost Foundry is also tied to materials found in the Winding Tunnels and serves as the final station for processing Casts. It does not replace the Black Forge. The two stations are used one after another.Image unavailableFirst, use the required Mould and materials at the Black Forge to create a Cast. Then take that Cast to the Frost Foundry, where it is hardened into the finished weapon, armor piece, or key.
How Moulds and Casts Work
While exploring the Deep North, you'll find items such as Mould: Nord Sword, Mould: Nord Bow, and Mould: Intricate Key.A Mould is not a recipe for a finished item in the usual sense. Instead, it must be combined with the appropriate materials at the Black Forge to produce a Cast.For example, the Intricate Key requires:
Mould: Intricate Key - 1;
Bloodgold - 5.
Crafting these materials produces Cast: Intricate Key. That Cast must then be placed in the Frost Foundry to create the finished Intricate Key.Most Nord weapons follow the same basic process: first the Mould and materials, then the Cast, and only after that the final hardening step.
Should You Collect Every Mould?
Yes, definitely. Even if you aren't using a particular weapon type right now, it's still worth taking its Mould with you.Some Moulds can appear in multiple types of Deep North locations and dungeons, but you shouldn't rely on immediately finding another copy later. Once you obtain new resources, a weapon you previously ignored may also turn out to be useful against a particular enemy or for a different build.You'll need to make multiple Intricate Keys during Deep North progression, so never throw away Mould: Intricate Key copies.
