Bloodgold is one of the main materials needed to progress through the Deep North in Valheim. Unlike most metals, however, there is no conventional ore deposit to mine. First, you need to defeat a massive Gammeltroll and then properly dismantle its petrified body. In this guide, we'll explain where to find Gammeltrolls, why you need Ember Charges, and how to obtain Bloodgold.
Gammeltrolls can be found on the surface of the Deep North. They do not require a separate dungeon or special spawn location, so explore the snowy plains and forests. They are difficult to miss because they are much larger than ordinary trolls and can be seen from a considerable distance.Before starting the fight, check the surrounding area. Fighting a Gammeltroll and several regular enemies from the new biome at the same time can be extremely unpleasant, especially while you are still using Ashlands gear.
How to Fight a Gammeltroll
The giant has melee attacks as well as a powerful ranged move involving logs. During the latter, it literally covers the area in front of itself with flying timber, so keep moving and get out of the way in advance.At close range, it is easier to stay behind or to the side of the Gammeltroll, attack after its swing, and immediately prepare for the next dodge. Because of the creature's size, its animations can sometimes be harder to read than those of regular enemies, so do not get greedy with extra hits. How to Craft Ember Charges
You cannot simply dismantle a petrified Gammeltroll with a pickaxe. You need Ember Charges for that. They are crafted at a regular Workbench. One craft produces ten charges and requires:
Seal Pelt — 2;
Embers — 1.
Embers are produced by the Eternal Pyre, while Seal Pelts are obtained from adult Seals along the Deep North coast. We therefore recommend keeping several charges with you at all times. Defeating a Gammeltroll only to travel halfway across the island because you forgot the explosives is rather painful.
How to Get Petrified Tissue
After defeating the Gammeltroll, approach its petrified body and use Ember Charges. In an earlier version of the mechanic, destroying the statue's legs was enough to bring the entire structure down. Move a safe distance away before the explosion. Once the remains break apart, collect the dropped Petrified Tissue.
How to Get Bloodgold
Return to a Blast Furnace and load the Petrified Tissue into it. After processing, you will receive Bloodgold. This unlocks much of the next stage of progression. The metal is required for casts used to craft Nord gear, the Moose Saddle, and, most importantly, Intricate Keys.Image unavailableSo do not stop after killing a single Gammeltroll.
