Cats are rare in Night City, but Cyberpunk 2077 still lets V adopt one permanently. The cat is called Nibbles, and the adoption becomes available after the beginning of Act 2, once you have completed Playing for Time and met Goro Takemura at Tom's Diner. The process is simple, but the game never marks it as a normal quest, so it is very easy to miss if you do not know where to look. This guide explains where to find Cat Food, where the feeding bowl is located, how long you need to wait, and where Nibbles lives afterward.
When Can You Adopt Nibbles?
You cannot adopt the cat during Act 1. The hidden interaction becomes available after Playing for Time, when V has already met Takemura at Tom's Diner and the early Act 2 activities have opened up. At that point, return to V's original apartment in Megabuilding H10 and leave the apartment through the main door. Follow the hallway around the corner toward the trash area, where a small bowl and the shard feed teh cat appear near the garbage containers. The shard is not a formal quest marker, and the game does not add a large objective to the Journal when you read it. Its purpose is simply to hint that somebody has been feeding a stray and that the animal likes an item literally called Cat Food. If the bowl or shard is missing, make sure you have progressed far enough through Playing for Time rather than assuming the interaction is bugged. You do not need Phantom Liberty, a particular lifepath, or any specific Attribute build to adopt Nibbles.
Where to Find Cat Food
The easiest modern solution is simply to buy Cat Food from a food vendor. In the current version of Cyberpunk 2077, food vendors can stock it, and the vendors in Kabuki Market are a reliable place to check. Cat Food is a cheap consumable, so there is no reason to rely on random loot or keep searching old fixed spawn points unless you happen to be nearby. This is much simpler than launch-era guides that told players to scour Night City until the item happened to appear. You can still find Cat Food as loot in several locations. One fixed package can be found in the basement hallway of the Arasaka warehouse near the Arasaka Industrial Park fast travel point, and another appears on the kitchen counter in the apartment visited during the gig Psychofan. The old version of this guide described that apartment as Kerry Eurodyne's home, which is incorrect because V is actually breaking into the apartment of a fan who possesses Kerry-related memorabilia. Cat Food can also appear in locations such as Randy's trailer during The Hunt, so check your inventory before making a special trip because you may already have one.How to Get Nibbles the Cat in Cyberpunk 2077How to Get Nibbles the Cat in Cyberpunk 2077
How to Feed the Cat Near V's Apartment
Once you have Cat Food, return to the original Megabuilding H10 apartment. Leave the apartment, walk along the nearby corridor, and look for the small bowl beside the trash containers in the same area where the feed teh cat shard appears. Interact with the bowl and V will place the Cat Food inside. You do not need to prepare the food manually, use a microwave, or add any of the joke ingredients mentioned in the shard. After filling the bowl, leave the area and let some in-game time pass. Sleeping in V's apartment is the easiest method, and roughly half a day is usually enough, although waiting longer causes no problems. Return to the bowl afterward and you should find Johnny Silverhand standing nearby while the stray cat eats. Approach the animal and interact with it to pick it up, after which the game plays a short scene and Nibbles moves into V's apartment permanently.
Where Does Nibbles Live After Adoption?
Nibbles lives in V's original Megabuilding H10 apartment. After the adoption scene, the apartment gains several cat-related details, including a sleeping spot near V's bed, a food bowl, and a litter box in the bathroom. Nibbles can appear in different resting places around the apartment, so the cat will not necessarily be sitting in the same spot every time you come home. The adoption is permanent for that playthrough, and you do not need to keep buying Cat Food afterward.Later updates added additional apartments that V can rent around Night City, but Nibbles does not permanently relocate to them. The cat remains associated with the original H10 home even if you spend most of your time in Japantown, The Glen, Corpo Plaza, or Northside. This also means that adopting Nibbles does not require you to own any of the optional apartments. If you want to visit the cat, return to V's starting home in Megabuilding H10.
Can Nibbles Disappear?
Under normal circumstances, no. Once the adoption scene has played, Nibbles remains part of V's H10 apartment for the rest of the playthrough and does not require additional maintenance. You cannot accidentally lose the cat by ignoring the apartment, changing romances, progressing through Phantom Liberty, or renting another home. The only real point of failure is before adoption, when the bowl interaction has not yet been unlocked or when V does not have Cat Food in the inventory. If the cat does not appear after you fill the bowl, leave Megabuilding H10 and pass more in-game time before returning. Sleeping or using the wait function is safer than standing beside the bowl and repeatedly checking it. Also make sure you are looking at the correct bowl in the hallway near V's original apartment rather than one of the unrelated cat encounters elsewhere in Night City. The adoption still works in the current Patch 2.31 version of the game.
Can You Get Any Other Pets?
Cyberpunk 2077 also lets V keep an iguana in the original H10 apartment, but that secret requires much more planning. During The Heist, you can pick up an Iguana Egg inside Yorinobu Arasaka's penthouse, then place it in the apartment after reaching Act 2. The egg takes an extremely long time to hatch, roughly 90 to 110 in-game days, so it is much less immediate than adopting Nibbles. Both animals can live in the apartment at the same time if you collected the egg before leaving Konpeki Plaza.Unlike the cat, the iguana can be permanently missed if you leave The Heist without taking the egg and do not use an exploit or mod to return later. Nibbles is much more forgiving because Cat Food remains obtainable and the H10 feeding spot stays available after Act 2 begins. This makes the cat the easiest permanent pet to add to V's home. If you only want one companion waiting for you between jobs, Nibbles is by far the simpler option.
Does Nibbles Affect Gameplay?
Nibbles does not provide combat bonuses, passive buffs, crafting materials, or additional quests. The cat is purely a home companion and environmental detail, which fits the role better than turning the animal into another gameplay system. Adopting Nibbles also does not interfere with romances, endings, Phantom Liberty choices, or apartment interactions. The reward is simply having one of Night City's rare surviving cats living with V.That small detail has become one of the better-known hidden interactions in Cyberpunk 2077 because it is easy to overlook during a normal playthrough. The whole process only requires reaching Act 2, obtaining one package of Cat Food, filling the hidden bowl, and returning after enough time has passed. There are no dialogue checks, combat requirements, or expensive purchases involved. Once you pick Nibbles up, the cat stays in the H10 apartment permanently. To adopt Nibbles in Cyberpunk 2077, complete Playing for Time, obtain Cat Food, and return to V's original apartment in Megabuilding H10. Place the food in the bowl near the trash area outside the apartment, wait roughly 12 hours or longer, then return and interact with the cat. Nibbles will move into the H10 apartment permanently and does not need to be fed again.
