Bungie has published a new Marathon roadmap built around three major updates. The first step, Nightfall Refresh, went live on October 6 and reset progression and the in-game economy, introduced a new Rewards Pass, and refreshed the live rotation. Bungie openly acknowledged that Season 2: Nightfall launched with progression and reward problems that pushed some players toward the endgame too quickly while leaving others behind.Symbiosis is scheduled for December 8. It will introduce Marathon's first permanent PvE experience, giving players a way to explore Tau Ceti IV and pursue loot without having to worry about enemy Runners. Perimeter is also getting a major visual overhaul as a fungal ecosystem spreads across the zone, opening new routes and creating additional points of interest. One of the new high-end encounters features the Tick Queen, described by Bungie as the game's largest combatant yet.Image unavailableThe update will also add an experimental Team Deathmatch mode, a social space with a firing range, improvements to onboarding, and a new Runner shell called Bishop. Bungie describes Bishop as a high-performance robot samurai built around speed, surprise, and devastating bursts of melee damage. The March 2027 update is being positioned as a much larger evolution of Marathon. Bungie plans to connect permanent PvE, PvP, and PvEvP experiences into one interconnected system, refactor the Cradle, deepen shell progression, add more focused questlines and narrative content, introduce new alien combatants, and open an entirely new zone.Bungie says the game currently asks new players to learn too much too quickly, so lowering the barrier to entry is one of the team's main priorities. The studio has also deliberately moved away from fixed seasonal deadlines. Future updates will be scheduled around the scope of the work and when features are ready, rather than forcing every major release into a strict seasonal calendar.
