Buying a gaming PC with an RTX 5090 at some Micro Center locations has started to feel a little like crossing a border. Customers are reportedly being asked to sign a declaration stating that they do not plan to export the graphics card, while also providing identification. The measures are tied to US export restrictions on powerful GPUs and efforts to combat reselling to restricted markets. The store can also potentially connect a specific graphics card to its original buyer through the serial number. So it used to be difficult enough just to find an RTX 5090 in stock. Now, once you finally find one inside a PC, you may also have to put in writing that you are not taking it somewhere you should not.
