Ubisoft Calls Its Global AI System Motherbrain, and the Internet Immediately Thinks of Metroid's Mother Brain

Ubisoft is seriously expanding its use of generative AI and apparently decided to give the initiative the most ominous name possible. According to Insider Gaming, Motherbrain is now treated internally as a global entity designed to bring GenAI into as many of the publisher's games as possible.The initiative will be led by longtime Ubisoft veteran Xavier Manzanares, who previously worked on Mario + Rabbids. Motherbrain's stated goal is to accelerate gameplay innovation and help teams with production.The name has already become a meme on Reddit. Users immediately drew comparisons to Mother Brain from Metroid and joked that Ubisoft somehow managed to name its corporate AI after a final boss.
