Developer One More Level has set the launch price of Valor Mortis at $39.99. The studio believes the game's polished 20-hour story has the quality, fidelity, and playtime to compete with full-price titles. However, this fall's release calendar is extremely crowded, and competition for players' time and money is particularly intense, so the team opted for a more accessible price.Valor Mortis launches on October 13. The surrounding October window is packed with major releases, including Gears of War: E-Day, Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, Star Wars: Galactic Racer, Final Fantasy Resonance, and Phantom Blade Zero. The game was originally scheduled for September 24, but One More Level moved it to October specifically to avoid an even more crowded September lineup and give both the game and players' wallets some room to breathe.A $59.99 Deluxe Edition will include a major story DLC planned for 2027 and several cosmetic packs. We played the demo ourselves and defeated its first boss. Valor Mortis takes place in an alternate version of 19th-century Europe, where the Napoleonic Wars have become intertwined with a supernatural plague. The infection transforms soldiers into monstrous creatures and turns battlefields into nightmare landscapes. The protagonist, William Dowsett, is a soldier of Napoleon's Grande Armée who dies on the battlefield and is later resurrected with the same corrupting power spreading across Europe. He must fight former comrades, uncover the truth behind the plague and his resurrection, and learn to control his new supernatural abilities. Our impressions of the combat were extremely positive. Valor Mortis combines precise first-person sword fighting with firearms and supernatural powers, letting players mix melee attacks, ranged weapons, parries, dodges, and magic-like abilities.Valor Mortis is scheduled to launch on October 13 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Hopefully, there won't be another delay.
