What we already know about GTA 6 weapons
Carrying a pocket-sized army around Vice City is going to be much harder this time. GTA 6 makes weapons part of your preparation: what you take with you matters, as does where you leave the rest of your arsenal before heading out. Rockstar has already explained several major changes, while official screenshots and the Extended Look footage reveal part of the weapon lineup. Below, we separate what is actually confirmed from invented prices, damage figures, and promises that the best rifle will be waiting around the first corner. This guide is based on information available as of October 6, 2026. Rockstar has not published a complete weapon catalog yet. Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Some weapons have been named directly by Rockstar, while others are visible in footage but still lack a fully confirmed in-game model name. A recognizable real-world design can help describe a gun, but it does not replace the name used by the game itself.Pistols and revolvers with confirmed names
Girardi ES9 - Jason's pistol
The Girardi ES9 is directly named in Rockstar's description of Jason's personalized weapon variant. The Ultimate Edition includes an engraved version made specifically for him. Visually, the pistol resembles the Beretta family, but its in-game name is Girardi ES9. There is no reason to search for it under the name of a real-world firearm once the game launches. The edition bonus is easy to misread. Rockstar advertises a personalized ES9 variant in the Ultimate Edition, which does not establish the entire base weapon as exclusive to that edition. The exact point at which the standard version becomes available, its price, and its full stats have not been published. Calling it the best starting handgun before release would be based on the engraving rather than gameplay evidence.Klose K17 - Lucia's pistol
The Klose K17 is Lucia's named pistol, and the Ultimate Edition similarly includes a personalized version for her. This is the second protagonist sidearm that can be confidently listed under its own in-game name. Its visual similarity to a Glock does not mean the real weapon's magazine capacity, recoil, or performance automatically applies to GTA 6.Do not choose between the ES9 and K17 solely because one is associated with Jason and the other with Lucia. Rockstar has not fully explained how freely weapons can be exchanged or shared between the protagonists. We know which personalized variants belong to each character, but that does not prove the other protagonist will be unable to use the standard gun. After launch, handling and performance will matter more than the name engraved on the slide.Hawk & Little Morgan Revolvers - a matching pair
The Hawk & Little Morgan Revolvers are included with the Ultimate Edition as a his-and-hers pair for the two protagonists. Rockstar describes them as having classic Vice City styling, palm-tree-etched grips, engraved detailing, and a high-performance scope. Official images show two personalized versions. Their description also says the styling was sourced from the Vercetti Estate, making the old Vice City connection explicit. That reference should not be treated as confirmation that Tommy Vercetti returns in the story. The item description explains where the revolvers' styling came from, not that the player will meet the old protagonist. For the same reason, a scope does not automatically make the Morgan the game's best long-range handgun. Right now, it is a confirmed edition bonus whose place in the broader weapon meta cannot be judged before release.Assault rifles, shotguns, and other named weapons shown in gameplay
The Extended Look footage revealed two more in-game weapon names through pickup prompts: the Duke 556 assault rifle and Moreland 850 shotgun. This is a different kind of confirmation from the store text because their names are visible directly in Rockstar's gameplay footage. Those scenes do not reveal complete stats, prices, or permanent acquisition locations. The Duke 556 appears during an office firefight, while the Moreland 850 is picked up during the stash-house sequence. These scenes are useful for identifying the weapons but should not be treated as ready-made campaign farming routes. We do not yet know how freely players can return to those exact locations or whether the same weapons respawn there. Promising a guaranteed free copy before launch would be premature.Press analysis of Rockstar's official images has also identified the markings Mustang .357 and Nipper .38. The former is a revolver, while the latter is a compact handgun. Another pistol carries Capo branding, but its complete model name has not been confirmed. We therefore do not assign it an invented designation.Which weapon categories have already been shown?
If you care more about the range of the arsenal than memorizing model numbers, the published material already shows a broad set of weapon classes:- Pistols and revolvers - several models, including directly named sidearms and personalized protagonist variants.
- Submachine guns - compact automatic weapons appear in footage and screenshots, including one shown with a tropical pattern.
- Assault rifles and carbines - used by the protagonists and other characters in official material.
- Shotguns - several visually distinct weapons appear, including shotguns used during firefights.
- Scoped rifles - visible in images featuring hunters and poachers.
- Grenade launcher - shown in Lucia's hands while firing at pursuing vehicles.
- Molotov cocktails - used during the Extended Look, including to destroy a getaway vehicle after an escape.
- Switchblade - pictured in official Ultimate Edition artwork beside the Morgan revolvers.
How many weapons can you carry?
In a Q&A with TGG, Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson described a clear carry limit: two concealed handguns and two long guns. The two long guns cannot both disappear behind the character's back. One can be carried on the back while the other is held in the off hand. These statements concern firearms, so they should not automatically be interpreted as a four-slot limit covering every knife, throwable, and utility item in the game. That makes loadout selection important before the shooting even starts. A handgun can remain concealed on your person, while long guns you are not currently taking with you can stay in storage until needed. Carrying two long guns at once also makes the character visibly more heavily armed. Walking out for coffee with a rifle on your back and another in your hand is not going to look like a normal morning.Once the game is available, we recommend choosing weapons for the job rather than trying to carry everything. A short drive around the city and a large planned firefight call for different loadouts, and GTA 6 no longer lets you hide an entire gun store in an invisible pocket. This is preparation advice rather than a pre-release claim about one perfect build. The useful setup will depend on combat distance, mission conditions, and where you left your vehicle. How pedestrians react to weapons
Nelson distinguishes between a long gun slung over the character's back and one actively carried in their hands. In the first case, nearby NPCs are much less concerned. Draw or carry a weapon ready in your hands and pedestrians begin reacting, avoiding you, and becoming visibly uncomfortable. The system pays attention not only to what you own but to how threatening you currently look. The practical lesson is that after a firefight, health is not the only thing worth thinking about. Putting the weapon away is a sensible step if you are trying to blend back into normal street life. It is not, however, a magic button that cancels an active police response. If witnesses have already reported the character, escaping the consequences will require whatever other tools the situation allows. We previously covered the broader direction of these systems in our GTA 6 Game Informer details roundup. For weapons, the important distinction is between carrying something and actively presenting it as a threat.Where weapons are stored
In his Famitsu interview, Nelson confirmed Ammu-Nation weapon lockers and weapon storage in vehicles. Every Ammu-Nation has a locker where owned guns can be accessed, while weapons can also be stored in your personal vehicle. You can even put a gun in the trunk of a stolen vehicle and use that storage for as long as you still retain the car.Rockstar's explanation also indicates that owned weapons are not permanently lost just because you discard one in the world. They remain associated with your personal vehicle storage or an Ammu-Nation locker. The exact retrieval flow and every edge case will still need to be tested in the finished game. This makes a vehicle more than transportation when planning an outing. It can function as the place where you left the rest of your loadout and where you return to swap equipment. We recommend considering where your car is parked before heading into a mission or exploration route. If you plan to travel a long way on foot, access to your stored weapons may matter more than choosing the fastest sports car.Temporary stolen vehicles should still be treated differently from your personal car. Do not build long-term storage around a random vehicle taken for one trip. Before abandoning it, check what you left in the trunk and where your next reliable storage point will be. Even if an owned gun remains registered elsewhere, owning a weapon and having immediate access to it are not the same thing.Where to buy and customize weapons
Ammu-Nation returns as the main gun store. Nelson has also said that some weapons are tied to specific store locations and that GTA 6 offers expanded weapon customization. Rockstar has not published a complete map of inventories or prices. That means there is no verified pre-release answer to "which Ammu-Nation sells the best gun?"Rockstar has already shown detailed engravings, decorative finishes, and a scope on the Morgan revolvers. Pre-orders also include the Vintage Vice City Pack weapon pattern, a tropical design inspired by the classic Vice City era. Cosmetic finishes change the look of a weapon, but they do not automatically confirm bonuses to damage or accuracy. Palm trees on the grip remain palm trees. After release, functional modifications should be compared by what they actually do in combat. Sight picture, recoil behavior, handling, and the conditions of a specific encounter matter more than a filled stat bar. For now, Rockstar has not published a complete list of attachments, prices, or compatibility. Recommending one mandatory suppressor or magazine before players can test the system would be guesswork. What has changed in gunfights?
Picking up weapons during combat
The Extended Look shows Jason and Lucia picking up enemy weapons during firefights. That creates an obvious fallback when your original loadout does not fit the situation or you need something immediately. The footage does not fully explain how a newly picked-up weapon replaces or occupies one of your existing carry slots. Ammo behavior and whether every found weapon is permanently added to your owned arsenal will need to be tested at launch.Slow-motion shooting
Rockstar's gameplay demonstration shows a slow-motion aiming mode driven by a dedicated meter. This is a confirmed part of the footage, but Rockstar has not publicly established the complete rules or a final official name for the system. Do not automatically copy Michael's GTA 5 ability rules onto it. Duration, meter recovery, target highlighting, and any differences between Jason and Lucia still need proper testing in the finished game.Suppressive fire
Nelson has described suppressive fire as a deliberate option in GTA 6. Instead of shooting a person directly, the player can fire near them to frighten, confuse, or pressure them long enough to escape. The idea is to create situations where getting away does not necessarily require killing every pursuer. That changes how a gunfight can be approached. If the goal is to escape rather than eliminate everyone, buying several seconds can be more valuable than extending the fight. Suppressive fire should not be treated as a guaranteed escape button in every encounter, but it clearly gives players another tactical choice beyond direct kills.Shooting and switching roles in vehicles
During the shown chase, the player can control the character firing while their partner drives, or take over driving instead. Shots against different parts of a pursuing vehicle can affect its behavior, so the chase depends both on which protagonist you control and what you choose to target. Firing generally in the direction of the pursuers and deliberately disabling a specific car are not the same tactic. One showcased sequence should not be treated as proof that every mission will offer unrestricted role switching. Individual missions may impose their own scripting and restrictions. For future walkthroughs, it will be important to verify where the player can choose the driver or shooter and where the story locks control to one protagonist. For now, the useful confirmed takeaway is that Rockstar has shown both driving and shooting roles within the same chase structure. How to prepare for an outing
Before release, there is no way to build a properly tested "best GTA 6 weapon loadout," but the confirmed systems already tell us what preparation will involve. Start with the purpose of the trip. A robbery, a story mission, and free exploration may all call for different equipment. Then think about where the rest of your arsenal is stored and how you plan to leave the area. Weapons solve part of the problem, but they do not replace a getaway vehicle or an escape route.Keep these questions in mind:- What should you carry? Choose equipment based on expected combat range and mission conditions.
- Where is the rest of your arsenal? Consider access to your personal vehicle and Ammu-Nation weapon lockers.
- How armed will you look in public? A weapon in your hands changes how nearby people react.
- Do you actually need to keep fighting? If the objective is complete, escaping may be more useful than starting another shootout.
- Which bonus are you actually buying? A personalized weapon variant, a separate weapon set, and a cosmetic pattern are three different kinds of edition content.
?Frequently Asked Questions
What is the most powerful weapon in GTA 6?
There is no verified ranking yet. A real comparison requires damage, rate of fire, accuracy, recoil, reload speed, ammunition behavior, and actual combat situations. One spectacular explosion in a trailer does not tell us which weapon will be most useful across the majority of missions.
Can you get Jason and Lucia's pistols without the Ultimate Edition?
Rockstar's bonus description specifically refers to personalized variants of Jason's Girardi ES9 and Lucia's Klose K17. That is not enough evidence to call the standard versions exclusive to the Ultimate Edition. Rockstar has not yet published the exact acquisition method for the normal versions.
Do you need the Ultimate Edition for the Morgan revolvers?
The announced personalized Hawk & Little Morgan Revolvers are listed as Ultimate Edition content. Rockstar has not published the full standard revolver lineup or every other way a similar weapon may be acquired. If you specifically want the advertised Morgan set, check the edition contents. If you simply want a strong revolver, wait for comparisons of the normal launch arsenal.
Can you carry every weapon at the same time?
No, firearm carrying is limited under the rules Rockstar has described. The rest of your owned arsenal remains in storage, so you will need to select a loadout before heading out. Those firearm rules should not automatically be extended to every tool, throwable, and miscellaneous item because Rockstar has not fully detailed the entire inventory system yet.
Are there free weapons?
The Extended Look shows characters picking up weapons dropped by enemies. Rockstar has not yet confirmed permanent repeatable locations where one specific model can always be collected for free. Maps based on old development leaks should not be treated as reliable launch-day farming routes.
Can you dual-wield pistols?
The matching Morgan revolvers for Jason and Lucia do not confirm dual-wielding by one protagonist. Rockstar presents them as a his-and-hers pair for the two characters, not as proof of a separate dual-wield combat mechanic. The full rules for simultaneous handgun use have not been published.
