Best Soul Splinters for Every Class Diablo 4 Season 15

In Season 15 of Diablo 4, there is no single Soul Splinter that you can socket into any character and forget about. Every powerful bonus comes with a drawback, so the best setup depends less on the class itself and more on whether a particular build can ignore or compensate for that drawback. For example, the Splinter of Hellfire offers an enormous damage boost but removes your normal Critical Strike Chance, while the Splinter of Anguish increases Attack Speed and Critical Strike Chance at the cost of higher skill resource costs.Blizzard officially calls these seasonal gems Soul Splinters. You may see them referred to more loosely as Soul Shards in community discussions, but we use the official term below. We have put together the most versatile combinations for all eight classes and highlighted cases where the usual choice should be swapped out for a specific build.

Best Soul Splinters for Barbarian

For Barbarian, the choice depends heavily on whether the build relies on normal Critical Strikes. Popular Whirlwind, Double Swing, and some high-powered Basic Skill builds work very well with Splinter of Hellfire + Splinter of Pain + Splinter of the Black Soulstone. Hellfire provides a huge direct damage multiplier, Pain offsets aggressive play with Damage Reduction, and the Black Soulstone ramps up quickly when fighting large groups of enemies. However, we do not recommend putting Hellfire into every Barbarian build just because its damage number looks impressive. If your setup genuinely depends on Critical Strike Chance, replace it with the Splinter of Anguish. This is the kind of combination used by Call of the Ancients builds, where Attack Speed and Critical Strike Chance are more valuable than a raw multiplier with a major restriction.
  • Recommended setup: Hellfire + Pain + Black Soulstone.
  • For crit builds: Anguish + Pain + Black Soulstone.

Best Soul Splinters for Druid

Druids usually do not want to sacrifice either Attack Speed or survivability, so Splinter of Anguish and Splinter of the Black Soulstone remain the most versatile foundation. Anguish works especially well in fast Shred builds, Companion setups, and many Nature-focused builds, while the Black Soulstone noticeably speeds up clearing as long as there are enough regular enemies around to keep generating souls. For the third slot, we recommend choosing between the Splinter of Pain and Splinter of Sin. Pain is better for pushing difficult content if you can make up for the Movement Speed penalty through gear. Sin grants a large amount of Maximum Life but reduces your Maximum Primary Resource, so make sure the build can still function comfortably without as much Spirit. For speed farming, Sin or Pain can sometimes be replaced with the Splinter of Lies for additional materials and experience.
  • Recommended setup: Anguish + Black Soulstone + Pain.
  • More durable option: Anguish + Black Soulstone + Sin.

Best Soul Splinters for Necromancer

Necromancer does not have one perfect trio for every archetype, but the Splinter of the Black Soulstone appears particularly often in strong builds. During clearing, Minions, Blood Wave, or Bone Skills can quickly build up souls, after which the damage bonus largely takes care of itself. The Splinter of Anguish pairs well with it, especially if the build benefits from Attack Speed and Critical Strikes and can comfortably sustain its Essence costs. For the third slot, we most often recommend the Splinter of Sin or Splinter of Pain. Sin is especially convenient for Minion builds, where extra Maximum Life can matter more than a large Essence pool, while Pain works better in more fragile setups such as Bone Spirit. Use the Splinter of Hellfire carefully. Some Necromancer builds can work around its drawback, but for most crit-focused setups, losing normal Critical Strike Chance is simply too expensive.
  • Recommended setup: Black Soulstone + Anguish + Sin.
  • For pushing the Pit: Black Soulstone + Anguish + Pain.

Best Soul Splinters for Rogue

Rogue is much more straightforward. Several current Season 15 builds, including Dance of Knives, Rapid Fire, and Penetrating Shot, use the same trio: Splinter of Anguish + Splinter of Pain + Splinter of Sin. The reason is simple. Rogue converts Attack Speed and Critical Strike Chance into damage extremely well while remaining fragile enough for Damage Reduction and extra Maximum Life to provide real value. The main thing to watch is your Primary Resource. Anguish increases its cost, while Sin also reduces the maximum amount you can hold, so a poorly optimized character can run out of Energy very quickly. If that is already happening, temporarily remove Sin or Anguish until you improve resource generation and recovery through gear and the skill tree.
  • Recommended setup: Anguish + Pain + Sin.

Best Soul Splinters for Sorcerer

The Sorcerer meta is very similar to Rogue. Blizzard, Ball Lightning, Chain Lightning, Fireball, and other current builds work well with Splinter of Anguish + Splinter of Pain + Splinter of Sin. Anguish speeds up attacks and helps with Critical Strikes, while the two defensive Splinters help compensate for the Sorcerer's traditional tendency to die suddenly after one missed attack. It is especially important not to overdo the Mana penalties here. Anguish increases skill resource costs, while Sin reduces your Maximum Primary Resource, so using both at the same time can feel uncomfortable in the early endgame. We recommend getting your Mana sustain under control first. Until then, replace Sin with a regular gem or a more neutral Soul Splinter.
  • Recommended setup: Anguish + Pain + Sin.

Best Soul Splinters for Spiritborn

Spiritborn is one of the classes best equipped to turn the Splinter of Hellfire's drawback into little more than a technicality. In builds using the Rod of Kepeleke, Core Skills cast at Maximum Vigor are guaranteed Critical Strikes through the weapon's own effect, so losing normal Critical Strike Chance is much less painful. For these setups, we recommend Splinter of Hellfire + Splinter of Pain + Splinter of the Black Soulstone. The result is massive damage, strong defense, and additional scaling while clearing packs. This is not a universal trio for the entire class. In builds that cannot bypass the loss of Critical Strike Chance through Kepeleke or another mechanic, Hellfire is better replaced with the Splinter of Sin. Pain + Black Soulstone + Sin is used in a number of fast-hitting and damage-over-time setups.
  • With Rod of Kepeleke: Hellfire + Pain + Black Soulstone.
  • Without guaranteed Critical Strikes: Pain + Black Soulstone + Sin.

Best Soul Splinters for Paladin

The most versatile Paladin combination right now is very straightforward: Splinter of Anguish + Splinter of Pain + Splinter of the Black Soulstone. It works across a range of setups, from Blessed Shield to Zealot and Judicator builds. Paladin gains a strong boost to Attack Speed and Critical Strike Chance, extra protection, and increasingly high damage as groups of enemies are cleared. We recommend starting with this trio and changing it only to solve a specific problem. If your build burns through its resource too quickly, temporarily drop Anguish. If you are farming easy content and no longer need the extra defense, Pain can be replaced with Lies for more Gold, materials, and experience.
  • Recommended setup: Anguish + Pain + Black Soulstone.

Best Soul Splinters for Warlock

Warlock is in a similar position to Paladin. Several current endgame setups focused on demons, hellfire, the Abyss, and rituals use Splinter of Anguish + Splinter of Pain + Splinter of the Black Soulstone. Anguish increases Attack Speed and Critical Strike Chance, the Black Soulstone performs extremely well while clearing groups, and Pain helps during those moments when the demons apparently decide that their master is the one tanking today. Some builds can use the Splinter of Sin in the third slot if Wrath and Dominance are already easy to sustain. We would not equip it automatically, though. Reducing your Maximum Primary Resource is painful for builds that constantly spend it on expensive skills, while Pain is much more predictable.
  • Recommended setup: Anguish + Pain + Black Soulstone.
  • Alternative for survivability: Anguish + Black Soulstone + Sin.

Which Soul Splinters are the most versatile?

If you have not settled on a build yet and only want to upgrade Soul Splinters that are almost guaranteed to be useful, prioritize the Splinter of Pain, Splinter of Anguish, and Splinter of the Black Soulstone. These three appear in recommendations for nearly every class, just in different combinations. The Splinter of Pain is the most straightforward defensive option. You lose Movement Speed but gain substantial Damage Reduction. Anguish is excellent for classes that can sustain their Primary Resource, while the Black Soulstone is especially strong when clearing densely packed dungeons. These are the Soul Splinters we recommend upgrading to their Unique, Abyssal versions first.Sin and Hellfire are much more build-dependent. Sin can break your resource economy, while Hellfire can completely disrupt normal Critical Strike mechanics. If a build can ignore the downside, however, they go from questionable choices to some of the strongest seasonal gems available.

Which Soul Splinters should you use for farming?

For experience and resources, the Splinter of Lies and Splinter of Damnation deserve special attention. They rarely appear in optimal setups for pushing the Pit, but on comfortable difficulties they can help you level faster and collect more materials. We recommend keeping at least one good Splinter of Lies in your stash and swapping it in whenever you are not pushing the limits of difficulty and simply want to clear content quickly. You do not have to copy an endgame build's Soul Splinter setup down to the last slot. If your character is no longer dying, you can replace a defensive option with a farming one. If you are constantly getting crushed in the Pit, on the other hand, a little more damage from the Black Soulstone will not solve the problem. In Season 15, the best Soul Splinters are the ones whose drawbacks your build barely notices.
