The Life Sciences Institute is a major new Astropolis area introduced in Honkai: Star Rail Version 4.6. Simply walking around the regular map won't be enough to clear it: some treasures are hidden inside 2D Jump stages, story-only spaces, and puzzles, while several areas only become fully accessible after completing Dance With the Beast Before Moonrise.This guide provides a step-by-step route through the Institute, covering chests, all three 2D Rotation challenges, Woolly Goods, and the main secrets. Keep in mind that the in-game map counter does not include every reward found inside separate challenges, so following the complete route will give you more opened treasures than the regular map alone may suggest.

How to Unlock the Life Sciences Institute

You'll first visit the area during the Trailblaze Mission Knowledge, Silence, Passing By from the Dance With the Beast Before Moonrise chapter. A shuttle takes you directly to the research center.Some of the area can be accessed early through Finality's Vision, but for a clean exploration run, it's better to finish the Version 4.6 story first. Several challenges and interactable objects depend on quest progression, while the third Woolly Goods reporter only appears after the story battle against Blood of the Fallen God: Yabuli.

Ephemera Eco-Park - Chests and Secrets

Chest 1

The first Basic Treasure is located almost immediately after you enter the park, shortly after leaving the shuttle stop. You can also pick up Volume 8 of the Actor Story Collection from a nearby bench.

Chest 2 - Jump Time

Enter 2D Jump! Difficulty III and start the Jump Time challenge. Here, you need to move through the stage in time with the rhythm. Completing it normally rewards a Bountiful Treasure and unlocks the Pom-Pom Hop achievement.If you want another achievement at the same time, land 30 jumps in a row on beat. This unlocks Rhythm Maestro.

Chest 3

This Basic Treasure is located almost directly opposite the Ephemera Eco-Park Space Anchor. It's difficult to miss while exploring the area normally.

Chest 4 and the Hunter × Hunter Achievement

Another Difficulty III 2D Jump challenge is located nearby, this time built around shooting from a balloon. During the flight, try to destroy every airborne balloon. One of them is tied to the Nameless Ephemeron: Demon Star.If you don't miss a single target, you'll unlock the Hunter × Hunter achievement. During the final part of the challenge, jump onto the red platform and collect the Bountiful Treasure. The first Woolly Goods reporter is also hidden in this run. Watch the balloons carefully: one carries the raccoon reporter, and you'll need to shoot it down as well.

Second Woolly Goods

Head to the cafeteria in the southern part of the Ephemera Eco-Park and speak with the Woolly Goods reporter there. After a flash, it will try to hide. Attack the orange ephemeron block opposite the Mastery Star to break the disguise and catch the reporter.

Chest 5

A Basic Treasure is located near the spot where you first spoke to the second Woolly Goods reporter. Grab it before leaving the cafeteria.

Chest 6 - First 2D Rotation

The cafeteria also contains an Origin of Floating Fat challenge featuring a green frog. First, run all the way to the right and, after passing the pink door, drop down to the first green figure. Enter the room and use the next pink door above. After teleporting, move left and restore the second object.After dropping down again, head as far right as possible and use the door on the second floor. It takes you to the level with the green frog. Complete the remaining section to receive a Bountiful Treasure.

Chest 7

This chest is located inside the story-related Difficulty II Trailblaze challenge. Use the trampolines to reach the second level, then jump across the purple ephemeron.There is a hidden branch below containing a collectible. After inspecting it, return to the room with the rainbow circle, climb upward, and collect the Basic Treasure. Make sure to press the red button before leaving.

Institute Corridor and The Exit 8

Chest 8

A Basic Treasure stands near the entrance to the transport compartment leading toward the Phantasm production area.

Chest 9 - How to Get The Exit 8 Achievement

In the corridor filled with paintings, enter 2D Jump! Difficulty X. This section parodies endless-corridor games: every time you enter a new room, carefully check whether anything has changed. If the room looks normal, continue forward. If you notice an anomaly, go back through the opposite portal.The correct sequence is:
  • room 0 - forward;
  • room 1 - forward;
  • room 2, with eyes on the walls - back;
  • room 3, with altered walls - back;
  • room 4, with the large dog - collect the Trinket Star first, then go back;
  • room 5 - forward;
  • room 6, with interference - back;
  • room 7, with ghosts - back;
  • room 8 - forward.
If you choose every portal correctly without making a mistake, you'll unlock the The Exit 8 achievement.

Bizarre Melody: Totally Abnormal Biopunk

After completing the anomaly corridor, you can reach the Toy Instrument. Play the following combination:Up - Left - Right - Left - Up - Down - Down - Up.Performing the melody transports you to a secret area. Head downward, collect the chest along the way, and use the gravity lines.At the bottom, you'll find a lever that changes the direction of the accelerator spheres. Position the red arrow beneath the block containing the trapped Phantasm, then jump onto the upper blue arrow. It will launch the character toward the red one, which then helps break through the obstacle and reach the creature. Completing the secret unlocks the Arcadia Variation: Monkeys Fishing for the Moon achievement.

Chest 10

A Basic Treasure sits on top of the containers opposite the Space Anchor near the entrance to the main part of the Institute.

Phantasm Production Area

Chest 11 - Second 2D Rotation

Another green-frog challenge can be found near the Factory Main Gate. Start by moving all the way to the right and dropping onto the first green figure. Rotate once with E, climb toward the frog, and then press E three more times.Drop down toward the windmill on the left and rotate twice more with E. Continue toward the frog until you see the second green figure. For the final sequence, perform one E rotation, jump to the platform with the creature, and finish with one Q rotation. Then collect the Bountiful Treasure.

Chest 12

Opposite the containers is another Difficulty III 2D Jump challenge with moving structures and spikes. In the first room, position the platform so the red sphere points toward the stone wall. In the second, wait until the upper-left structure is facing right and the lower-right structure points toward the door.In the third room, rotate the spiked platform into a vertical position. This lets you reach the Darkness Star, after which you can descend to the Basic Treasure.

Chest 13

A Basic Treasure stands beside the railing in the first production workshop.

Third Woolly Goods

After completing the Version 4.6 story, speak with Mastaka in the production area. If the character isn't there, first finish Dance With the Beast Before Moonrise and defeat Blood of the Fallen God: Yabuli. The conversation ends in a fight. Defeat the enemy to complete the final Woolly Goods encounter in the Institute.

Chest 14 - Precious Treasure

During Knowledge, Silence, Passing By, you'll enter the machine production conveyor and have to assemble your own Super Phantasm Car.The challenge has five stages: material neutralization, appearance selection, coloring, core installation, and quality inspection. After completing the final stage, don't leave immediately. Collect the Precious Treasure first.

Chest 15

After completing the Super Phantasm Car minigame, enter the room opposite the Production Workshop teleport point. A Basic Treasure is waiting inside.

Quality Control Workshop and Story Spaces

Chest 16

In the Quality Control Workshop, enter the Difficulty II 2D world. If the game says you have other business to attend to, first finish Knowledge, Silence, Passing By and progress until The Unselfish Gene.Follow the blue spheres and climb the right-hand wall toward the Detection Star. Then summon the small helper and use it to destroy the stone blocks. After activating the lever, direct the helper toward the button again.In the second area, use the switches to open the route downward. Cross the section with spikes, collect the Barking Star, and use the helper one final time to destroy the stone obstacle near the end. A Basic Treasure is located by the exit.

Chest 17

In the same area containing the super-secret weapon, inspect the container with the tablet. Another Basic Treasure stands nearby.

Chest 18

Head toward Cavern of Corrosion: Path of the Secret Actor. A Basic Treasure is located directly along the route and has no additional requirements.

Chest 19

Near the Stela of Life is another Difficulty III obstacle course. In the first area, touch the blue sphere, pass through the red ones, and activate the lever. In the second room, reposition the structure so you can reach the line of Pixons, then raise the spiked wall and fly through the blue spheres.In the final section, use the lever beyond the rainbow thread. Do not touch the lower switch. With the correct configuration, the path to the Basic Treasure will open.

Chest 20

Look to the right of the administrator's desk. The Nameless Ephemeron: Harm Star is also located nearby.

Chest 21

A Basic Treasure sits beside the bonsai in the room with artificial lighting.

Chest 22 - Third 2D Rotation

The final Origin of Floating Fat challenge is located on the opposite side of the room. First, activate the object to the right of the starting point. Return to the windmill and press Q twice. Jump to the object on the left and perform one E rotation.Next, use the levers one by one to reveal the orange platforms and keep climbing upward. After the third switch, rotate once with Q and restore the second object on the left.Press Q once more, drop down to the frog, and move all the way to the left. Wait for the dark-purple platform, which will lift the character to the final figure. Complete the challenge and collect the Bountiful Treasure.

Chest 23

The final stop on the route is the Brain in a Jar 3D space where the story battle against Yabuli took place. Return there after finishing the story and collect the Basic Treasure.

What Else to Check Before Leaving

Before leaving the Institute, make sure you've caught all three Woolly Goods reporters, completed all three 2D Rotation challenges, and cleared the anomaly corridor without making a mistake. Also play the Bizarre Melody: Totally Abnormal Biopunk. This secret is easy to miss, but it hides an additional reward and the Arcadia Variation: Monkeys Fishing for the Moon achievement.
If part of the Institute is still inaccessible, check your story progress first. This location genuinely contains activities that only become available after specific stages of the Version 4.6 chapter, so running in circles around a locked passage before the required quest is complete won't help.
