In Season 15 of Diablo 4, you can return to Old Tristram, the town from the original Diablo. However, the game does not give you a dedicated marker leading straight there. First, you need to find all 10 of Deckard Cain's journals scattered across Sanctuary. Finding them all unlocks the hidden Deckard's Journey quest. The journals can be collected in any order. Most are located fairly close to waypoints, and a small green marker appears on the minimap when you approach the correct spot. This means you will not have to search every corner for a tiny satchel.

Where to Find All of Deckard Cain's Journals
You need to read 10 journals in total. Three are in Kehjistan, another three are in Scosglen, two are hidden in the Fractured Peaks, and Hawezar and the Dry Steppes contain one each. The numbering below matches the individual parts of Deckard's story. You do not need to follow this order, so you can clear one region completely before moving on to the next if you prefer.Deckard's Journal 1: Gea Kul, Kehjistan
Use the Gea Kul waypoint and head toward the western side of the city, where the docks are located. The satchel is sitting on a wooden pier by the water, roughly 60 meters southwest of the waypoint. This is one of the easiest entries to collect. You do not need to leave the city or enter a dungeon. Simply make your way through Gea Kul toward the shore and keep an eye on the minimap. In this part of the story, a young Deckard describes his sea voyage to Kehjistan.Deckard's Journal 2: Imperial Library, Kehjistan
The second entry is located almost right next to Cain himself. Teleport to the Imperial Library and walk just a few steps southeast. The satchel is near Deckard's table and the waypoint. If you are collecting the entries after finishing the seasonal storyline, this is probably the easiest journal to pick up first. Remember this library, because after finding all ten parts, you will need to return here to open the way to Old Tristram.Deckard's Journal 3: Scouring Sands, Kehjistan
The third entry requires a little more travel. It sits in the middle of the Scouring Sands, where there are very few obvious landmarks. One convenient route is to travel to Andariel's Lair, leave the area, and head roughly 220-250 meters north. You can also start from Tarsarak and cross the desert toward the area near the Vault of the Crucible, but that route is noticeably longer. As you approach the correct location, keep an eye on the minimap. The marker that appears nearby is much more reliable than trying to navigate by nearly identical sand dunes. Of all ten entries, this one is the farthest from a convenient waypoint.Deckard's Journal 4: Wejinhani, Hawezar
Teleport to Wejinhani. The journal is practically inside the settlement itself. Head to the small Alchemist's hut near the waypoint, go inside, and look around the room. The satchel is only a few meters from the waypoint, so you will not need to wander through Hawezar's swamps for long.Deckard's Journal 5: Lorath's Cabin, Fractured Peaks
The next part is hidden in Lorath's Cabin, a familiar location from the main campaign between Kyovashad and Nevesk. The easiest approach is to use the nearest available waypoint and follow the road to the house. Go inside, enter the back room, and check near the bed. The journal is lying on the floor. If you finished the main campaign a long time ago and no longer remember where the cabin is, look north of Nevesk in the southern Fractured Peaks.Deckard's Journal 6: Broken Bridge, Dry Steppes
Travel to Hidden Overlook and head west, gradually turning southwest. After roughly 90 meters, you will reach the broken bridge overlooking the Guulrahn area. The satchel is near one of the remaining bridge supports. A large group of cannibals may be nearby, so clear them out first if they prevent you from interacting with the journal. After reading it, you learn that Deckard accidentally stumbled into a local wedding during his travels and met Vasily, a character who becomes important later in this short story.Deckard's Journal 7: Marowen, Scosglen
Teleport to Marowen on Scosglen's northern coast and head toward the western docks. The journal is roughly 80 meters southwest of the waypoint. Walk all the way to the end of the wooden pier. The satchel is near the water, so once the minimap marker appears, it is difficult to miss.Deckard's Journal 8: Penitent Cairns, Scosglen
For the next entry, use the Braestaig waypoint and head north toward the entrance to the Penitent Cairns dungeon. The correct area is about 130 meters from the waypoint. You cannot reach the satchel simply by following the road. Near the entrance, find the spot where your character can climb the wall, go up, and jump across the small gap. You will then be right next to the journal. If you reach the dungeon entrance but the marker appears to be on a different level, do not look for a passage inside. The journal is outside. You simply need to climb up to reach it.Deckard's Journal 9: Fiefdom House, Scosglen
The ninth entry is hidden much better than the previous ones. Head to the Fiefdom House area near Oldstones. A convenient route starts either from the Under the Fat Goose Inn waypoint or from the Tirmair side. Look for a partially ruined building near the entrance to Oldstones. One of the walls has a small opening your character can squeeze through. The satchel containing the ninth journal entry, along with a chest of regular loot, is behind that wall.Do not look for the journal in front of the dungeon entrance. It is inside the ruined structure itself, which makes it almost impossible to see from the road.Deckard's Journal 10: Woods Near Yelesna, Fractured Peaks
The final entry is located near Yelesna. Use the local waypoint and head roughly 100 meters northwest toward the woods and the old Horadric vault.Continue along the path until you reach a small clearing. Enemies are usually nearby, so clear the area first and then interact with the journal lying on the ground. This entry concludes the story of young Deckard's journey. Near a three-faced statue, he realizes why he set out in the first place and decides to return home. How to Check Which Journals You Have Already Found
You do not need to repeat the entire route because of one missing entry. Open Deckard's Journal and check which parts of the story you have already read. Use the numbers as a reference as well. For example, if only Part 8 is missing from your collection, head straight to Penitent Cairns in Scosglen. The game does not require you to collect the entries strictly from one through ten.The fastest route is roughly as follows: collect the three entries in Kehjistan first, then one in Hawezar, two in the Fractured Peaks, the journal in the Dry Steppes, and finish with the three locations in Scosglen. With all the waypoints unlocked, however, the difference in travel time is fairly small. How to Reach Old Tristram
After reading the tenth entry, the hidden Deckard's Journey quest starts automatically. Return to the Imperial Library and speak with Deckard Cain. After the conversation, a Deckard's Memory portal appears nearby. Enter it and continue through the next story sequence, which takes your character to Old Tristram from the original Diablo. This is not the modern New Tristram from Diablo 3, but a recreation of the original town. You can meet familiar characters here, including Griswold, Ogden, Adria, Wirt, Pepin, Gillian, and Farnham. Some of them offer separate quests that directly reference events from the first game. What to Do in Old Tristram
Unlocking the town is only the beginning of Season 15's hidden questline. Ogden offers the Ogden's Sign quest involving his tavern's missing sign, while the Wounded Townsman sends you on The Butcher quest. Both storylines directly reference quests from the original Diablo.Old Tristram is also required to obtain the Hellfire Torch. For the next major step, you need to collect the three Prime Evil Splinters, combine them in the Horadric Cube, and obtain Wirt's Lucky Coins. You can then use Tristram's central fountain to open a portal to the Echo of Tristram, where Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto appear together. It is better to complete that stage separately with our Diablo 4 Hellfire Torch guide, because you do not need the boss Splinters or Wirt's Lucky Coins simply to unlock Old Tristram. All you need to do is find all 10 of Deckard Cain's journals, return to the Imperial Library, and enter Deckard's Memory.Sign in to leave a comment or rate this post.
