The Hellfire Torch is one of the main secret rewards of Season 15 in Diablo 4. Getting it takes more than simply completing the Seasonal Questline. First, you need to unlock Old Tristram, then obtain three rare Splinters of Evil from high-level Waking Nightmares, combine them in the Horadric Cube, and put Wirt’s Lucky Coins to use.At the end of this chain, you can open the Echo of Tristram, where the Echo of Diablo, Echo of Baal, and Echo of Mephisto attack at the same time. Defeating them can reward you with the Mythic Unique Charm Hellfire Torch, which boosts your stats and skills while also allowing you to equip an additional Unique Charm.

What You Need to Get the Hellfire Torch

Before you begin, make sure you have access to the main Season 15 mechanics. You need to complete the Seasonal Questline, unlock the Horadric Cube and Old Tristram, and be able to clear pinnacle Waking Nightmares on at least Torment X.The full route looks like this:
  1. Unlock Old Tristram by finding Deckard Cain’s journals.
  2. Obtain the Splinter of Terror, Splinter of Destruction, and Splinter of Hatred.
  3. Combine all three items in the Horadric Cube.
  4. Obtain Wirt’s Lucky Coins.
  5. Return to Old Tristram and use a coin at the fountain.
  6. Enter the Echo of Tristram.
  7. Defeat the Echo of Diablo, Echo of Baal, and Echo of Mephisto in a single battle.
If Old Tristram is still locked, first find all 10 of Deckard Cain’s journals. Their locations and the following Deckard’s Journey quest are covered in detail in our guide to all of Deckard Cain’s journals and unlocking Old Tristram.

How to Get the Three Splinters of Evil

You encounter Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto during the Seasonal Questline and learn how the Splinters of Evil work along the way. After completing the story, you can choose which Prime Evil power to bear and continue progressing through its seasonal reputation track.That alone is not enough to obtain the Hellfire Torch. You need three actual consumable items in your inventory: the Splinter of Terror, Splinter of Destruction, and Splinter of Hatred. Additional copies can drop from the highest-level versions of the largest Waking Nightmares, which are available as pinnacle Capstones at Torment X and above.

Where to Get the Splinter of Terror

The Splinter of Terror is associated with Diablo. Enter the Waking Nightmare The Labyrinth (Hell) and reach the Echo of Diablo. You need the high-level version of this dungeon available at Torment X and above.After defeating the boss, check your loot for the Splinter. The drop is not guaranteed, so if you do not get one, reset the dungeon and run it again.

Where to Get the Splinter of Destruction

The Splinter of Destruction is associated with Baal. His endgame encounter takes place in the Worldstone Keep, the iconic location from Diablo 2.Complete the high-level Waking Nightmare on Torment X or above and defeat the Echo of Baal. As with Diablo, the required Splinter may not drop on your first attempt. If you plan to craft several Wirt’s Lucky Coins, keep any additional copies you find.

Where to Get the Splinter of Hatred

The third item, the Splinter of Hatred, is associated with Mephisto. Head to the Durance of Hate and reach the final boss of the corresponding Waking Nightmare. Defeat the Echo of Mephisto and check the loot. Once you have all three Splinters, return to the Horadric Cube.

How to Get Wirt’s Lucky Coins

The recipe is hidden, so you will not find it among the Horadric Cube’s standard recipes. Simply place the three required items inside:
  • Splinter of Terror: 1;
  • Splinter of Destruction: 1;
  • Splinter of Hatred: 1.
Transmute the items. All three Splinters will be consumed, and you will receive Wirt’s Lucky Coins.During the first few days of the season, another version of the recipe involving the Stone of Jordan circulated online. You do not need it. The correct recipe requires only the three Splinters of Evil, so do not waste a valuable item.

Where to Use Wirt’s Lucky Coins

Return to the Imperial Library, where Deckard Cain is located, and enter the previously unlocked Deckard’s Memory. The portal takes you directly to Old Tristram.Head to the fountain in the center of the town. If you have Wirt’s Lucky Coins, a new interaction will become available. Use the item, and the fountain will change as a red portal opens nearby.The fountain requires a sufficiently high Torment difficulty. Since you will already be farming the pinnacle Waking Nightmares on Torment X or above, it is safest to leave the difficulty unchanged before using the coin.Enter the red portal. It leads to the Echo of Tristram, a separate arena inspired by the famous Uber Tristram encounter from Diablo 2.

How to Defeat Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto in the Echo of Tristram

Inside, you do not fight the three bosses one after another. The Echo of Diablo, Echo of Baal, and Echo of Mephisto appear in the same arena and attack simultaneously, quickly filling the battlefield with overlapping area attacks, projectiles, and boss mechanics.Before entering, make sure your build can comfortably handle high Torment levels. Resistances, damage reduction, and at least one reliable mobility option are especially important. Overlapping mechanics from several bosses are much more dangerous here than simply failing a damage check.Do not focus entirely on a single boss from the start. If one of the Prime Evils dies too early while the others still have a large amount of health, it can recover and rejoin the fight. A safer strategy is to lower the health of all three bosses together, then finish them one after another near the end with as little time between kills as possible.Pay especially close attention to Baal and Mephisto. Baal’s attacks and summoned elements continue to occupy the arena alongside the other bosses’ abilities, while Mephisto changes his behavior as the fight moves through different phases. Diablo constantly pressures you at close and medium range, so standing still for long is rarely an option.Once all three bosses are low on health, activate your main offensive buffs and finish the fight as quickly as possible. When all three Prime Evils are defeated for good, the encounter rewards will drop.

What the Hellfire Torch Does

Hellfire Torch is a Mythic Unique Charm inspired by the item of the same name from Diablo 2. It can have the following properties:
  • 10% to 20% All Stats;
  • 10% to 20% Resistance to All Elements;
  • +1 to +4 to All Skills;
  • allows you to equip one additional Unique Charm;
  • adds +1 Set count to one of your class’s Talisman sets.
The final property is especially useful for builds centered around Talisman sets. The Torch can help you reach the next set bonus while using one fewer regular Set Charm, while the additional Unique Charm slot gives you even more freedom when putting together your Talisman setup.In addition to the Torch, the secret encounter can reward the Standard of Heroes and other high-level loot. However, the Mythic Unique Charm is the main reason to complete this lengthy chain.

How to Farm the Hellfire Torch Again

The Echo of Tristram is not a one-time event. After your first victory, you can fight the bosses again, but every new attempt requires another Wirt’s Lucky Coin.In other words, the cycle begins again with the three Splinters. Farm Diablo until you obtain the Splinter of Terror, Baal until you obtain the Splinter of Destruction, and Mephisto until you obtain the Splinter of Hatred. Combine all three in the Horadric Cube, then return to the fountain in Old Tristram.However, do not spend another coin immediately after your previous victory just to collect another round of loot. In a September hotfix, Blizzard increased the internal cooldown on rewards from the Prime Evil Council encounter. The developers did not specify the exact duration, so it is better to spend some time on other activities before opening the next arena.

What to Do If the Fountain Takes the Coin but the Portal Does Not Appear

During the first few days of Season 15, the fountain had a frustrating bug: Wirt’s Lucky Coin could disappear from your inventory without opening the red portal. Blizzard fixed this issue on September 22, 2026.If you encounter this problem now, first make sure your game client is fully updated and check your current difficulty. Since this route already requires farming high-level Waking Nightmares, it is safest to remain on Torment X or above. Also make sure you have actually unlocked Old Tristram by finding all 10 of Deckard Cain’s journals instead of attempting to use the coin in a different version of Tristram.Spent coins are not restored automatically. If the item disappears and the portal still does not open, you will need to obtain all three Splinters of Evil again and repeat the hidden Horadric Cube recipe.
