Restoring the magical portal is one of the main story objectives in the second half of Graveyard Keeper 2. The device is located in Gunter's tower, but it was once split into seven fragments and hidden throughout the town. Some pieces can be obtained from familiar characters, one must be bought for gold, and the final fragment becomes available only after the last battle. The search spans several major questlines, so it is easy to miss when the next fragment becomes available. Below, we'll explain where to find all seven portal fragments, which conditions must be met, and the most convenient order for restoring the device.
How to Unlock the Portal Fragment Search
You can begin restoring the portal after Larry suggests asking Gunter about the old device. Go to the Astrologer's Tower at the port and choose the dialogue option about the portal. Gunter will remember a man who took part in its last activation and now lives among the monks at the Royal Foundry beneath the old bathhouse. You cannot reach the foundry immediately. Continue Herbert's military campaign and Jack's water-tunnel questline until the route to the Royal Foundry opens. At the final stage, you must win Break Through to the Bathhouse Basement, which requires 96 Defense Power. The complete battle sequence is covered in our guide to all of Herbert's quests. At the foundry, talk to the Bishop about the magical portal. He will explain that the device was split into seven parts and that he uses the Magic Mirror to locate the remaining fragments. After your first conversation, the mirror will point toward Gunter, opening two branches of the search at once.Portal Fragment: Sloth
The first fragment is already in the Bishop's possession. He will not give it away for free and instead asks you to provide the monks with a compact source of labor: 3 Zombie Power. These items are produced in the Bioreactor at the Factory. Each Zombie Power requires 5 Wheat, so you need 15 Wheat in total. The recipe also requires the Bioreactor Technology and Farming Mastery 1.Once all three items are ready, return to the Royal Foundry and give them to the Bishop. In return, you will receive the Sloth portal fragment. The Bishop's quest and the production of Zombie Power are covered in more detail in our guide to the Bishop's quest.Take Sloth to Gunter's tower and interact with the portal frame. Once installed, the fragment disappears from your inventory and takes its place in the structure.Portal Fragment: Gluttony
After using the Magic Mirror at the Bishop's location, return to Gunter. The mirror pointed directly to him, and this time the Astrologer admits that he has been holding onto one of the fragments all along.Choose the dialogue option about the portal fragment. Gunter will give you the Gluttony portal fragment and reveal another useful detail: he once sold another piece to a merchant. This automatically unlocks the next stage of the search.Install Gluttony in the portal frame inside the tower. You can obtain it almost at the same time as Sloth, so if you have not yet produced all three Zombie Power, you can take Gunter's fragment first and return to the Bishop later.Portal Fragment: Lust
For the third fragment, go to the Trademaster at the Main Pier and ask about the portal. The piece Gunter sold is still aboard the merchant ship, but it can only be purchased on a specific day of the week.Wait for Lust day, marked with the same symbol used for Linda's concert, and bring 1 gold coin. Talk to the Trademaster and choose the option to buy the portal fragment. The gold will be spent, and you will receive the Lust portal fragment.Return to Gunter and make sure you actually insert Lust into the portal. Simply carrying the fragment in your inventory is not enough. Installing it starts the next two branches: the search for Envy in the Sluice Area and the conversation with Jack about Pride.Portal Fragment: Envy
After Lust is installed, a new fragment becomes available among the debris in the Sluice Area. However, you cannot visit the location early and collect it in advance. The area must first be completely cleared of zombies. To do this, progress through Linda's and Herbert's connected questlines, drain the area, and complete Operation POTATO. Once the zone is safe, return after installing Lust and inspect the debris. A new interaction point will appear, allowing you to recover the Envy portal fragment.Take the fragment back to Gunter's tower and install it in the portal. If the debris cannot be interacted with, check two things first: the area must already be cleared, and Lust must be installed in the portal. Simply owning the third fragment is not enough to trigger this step.Portal Fragment: Pride
The fifth fragment is held by Jack. Gunter once gave him the unusual stone for luck, and only after Lust is installed does it become clear that the object is another piece of the portal.Go to Jack's workshop in town and ask him about the stone. The first conversation requires 60 reputation, but Jack will not hand over Pride yet. He agrees to give it to you only after reaching 80 reputation. If you are stuck at 60, continue Jack's questline. After unlocking the Royal Foundry, you can buy 3 Steel Ingots from the Bishop for the Man of Steel quest, then raise the Factory rating to 20 during Factory Tour. These stages provide enough reputation to reach the required level. The complete sequence is covered in our guide to all of Jack's quests. At 80 reputation, talk to him again and take the Pride portal fragment. Then return to Gunter's tower and install it.You can obtain Envy and Pride in either order. What matters is that the portal contains five fragments before the next stage begins: Sloth, Gluttony, Lust, Envy, and Pride.Portal Fragment: Wrath
As soon as the fifth fragment is installed, another scene involving the Magic Mirror begins. It shows a heavily guarded Inquisition Base before revealing a place now occupied by a donkey and a talking skull: your own home, where Larry and Donkey live.Return to the Inquisition Base and inspect the nearby debris. Once the quest has started, a new interaction point appears there. Clear the debris and collect the Wrath portal fragment. You cannot obtain this fragment in advance. The game activates the required debris only after all five previous fragments have actually been inserted into the portal. If nothing happens, check how many pieces are currently installed.Return to Gunter's tower and install Wrath. The Magic Mirror will now reveal the location of the final fragment: the throne room of the Royal Palace. This is where the regular search ends, since Greed is obtained only after the final battle. How to Reach the Palace for the Final Fragment
After Wrath is installed, Larry suggests speaking with Davy the Dagger, who knows a secret route into the palace. Find him at the Dockside Club and ask about the palace. Davy demands 50 silver for the information.Pay him, then return home. Davy says he needs some time to prepare, but there is no lengthy wait. The next time you leave the house, he will be standing outside and will give you a map showing a route through the sewers to the palace. The map alone is not enough to unlock the final battle. You must also complete the Old God storyline and secure the support of three pairs: Jack and Gunter, Linda and Albert, and Agatha and Herbert. If you returned the Red Eye to the Old God, each character needs 90 reputation. If you kept the eye, the requirement increases to 100. It is easiest to complete these branches and their required gifts while following the Old God's final questline.Portal Fragment: Greed
Once Davy has given you the route and all six characters agree to help, The Last Battle becomes available near the Royal Palace. It requires 144 Defense Power and allows you to bring four squads. The battle can be started on Sloth day, and barricades and Archer Towers are available again.Win the battle and follow the marked secret route into the palace. How the hidden door is opened depends slightly on your decision involving the Red Eye, but both paths converge once you are inside. In the throne room, the Keeper meets another Keeper who possesses the final missing piece of the portal. After the conversation, he gives you the Greed portal fragment, and the The Other Keeper achievement unlocks. This is the seventh and final fragment, so the search is now complete. How to Fully Restore the Portal
After obtaining Greed, the entire group automatically returns to Gunter's tower. At this point, you temporarily cannot leave. You must finish restoring the portal first.Approach the frame and install the Greed portal fragment. The seventh piece disappears from your inventory, the portal becomes whole again, and you unlock the The End of the Journey achievement. A final scene involving the characters' wishes and the Keeper's last decision then begins. If you go through the portal with the others, the credits roll and the game returns to the main menu. Loading your save places you back at your last save before the finale, since Graveyard Keeper 2 saves when you sleep. If you choose to stay, the other characters leave through the portal without the Keeper, and after the credits you can continue playing in the same world. Both paths ultimately lead to the same restored portal. Your decision regarding the Red Eye mainly changes the amount of preparation required and the reputation thresholds for the six supporting characters, not the locations of the seven fragments.Sign in to leave a comment or rate this post.
