Insanity in Graveyard Keeper 2 gradually builds up while working with corpses and if you continue performing strenuous tasks after becoming tired. The higher it gets, the more it interferes with your character, so it's best to keep it under control and recover regularly. In this guide, we'll explain how to reduce Insanity, when you should go to sleep, and why Berry Pie is worth making.

Why Insanity Increases

One of the main causes of Insanity is working while suffering from Lack of Sleep. You'll know your character needs rest when the Zz icon appears. If you continue chopping, digging, or performing other tasks in this state, your Insanity will start to rise.Certain grim activities involving the graveyard and corpses also increase Insanity. Because of this, even maintaining a healthy sleep schedule won't always prevent it from building up completely.

How to Reduce Insanity by Sleeping

The easiest method is to go to bed at the right time. However, regular sleep does not always reduce Insanity. It only decreases when your character is actually suffering from Lack of Sleep.
This means you shouldn't constantly go to bed just to restore Energy. If the tiredness indicator hasn't appeared yet, sleeping will replenish your Energy but won't reduce the Insanity you've accumulated. Once Lack of Sleep appears, head to bed to noticeably lower the meter.

How to Reduce Insanity with Berry Pie

Another convenient option is Berry Pie. Each pie reduces Insanity by 3 points, so keeping several on hand makes it much easier to maintain a low Insanity level even if you regularly work with corpses.
The most effective approach is to combine both methods: stop working once severe tiredness sets in, sleep at the right time, and keep a few pies with you. This way, Insanity will rarely have a chance to become a serious problem.

How to Avoid Building Up Insanity

The main rule is to keep an eye on your character's condition. If the Lack of Sleep icon appears, it's better to finish what you're doing and go to bed instead of trying to squeeze a few more tasks into the day. You won't be able to avoid working with corpses entirely, so the Insanity gained from those activities is easier to offset with food and regular rest.
