WARDOGS has a huge arsenal, but not every available weapon is worth buying. Some guns clearly outperform the alternatives around them in the progression tree, others only become strong with specific attachments, and a few are better skipped entirely so you don't waste money. A good loadout is also about much more than your primary weapon. Your backpack, armor, ammunition, grenades, and equipment directly affect how long you can stay in the fight before your next respawn. In this guide, we'll break down the best weapons to use at different stages of progression in WARDOGS, which guns are worth buying as soon as they unlock, where you can save money, and what kind of loadout works best for beginners.
Best Beginner Loadout
At the first few levels, there is no reason to spend all your money on expensive weapons. The free starter rifle is more than enough to begin leveling Assault while also earning XP for other roles.Your first purchase should be a decent backpack. The standard pouch fills up quickly, while extra slots let you carry more ammunition, medical supplies, and grenades. The price difference is small, so saving money on backpack space usually isn't worth it.A solid early loadout looks something like this:
Free starter rifle.
One spare magazine.
One full stack of ammunition.
Best backpack currently available.
Best armor currently available.
Binoculars.
Free Emergency Resuscitator.
Five Bandages.
One or two frag grenades.
A Basic Parachute if you're flying with a pilot you don't know.
You can skip a pistol entirely at the start. In most situations, it only adds weight and takes up inventory space, while the money is better spent on armor, a backpack, or extra ammunition. We also strongly recommend always carrying Binoculars. Spotting enemies before killing them gives you Recon XP even while you're playing Assault or Medic. This makes it easy to reach Recon level 5 and unlock the SKS without suffering through the starter Scout Rifle TD.
Why You Should Buy Ammo Instead of Magazines
Loose ammunition is much more space-efficient in WARDOGS. Instead of carrying several spare magazines, for example, you can bring one full stack of ammo and refill the magazines you already have after a fight. You can fit considerably more rounds into the same amount of inventory space this way. Early on, one spare magazine plus a stack of ammunition is usually enough.Image unavailableThe situation changes slightly with high-rate-of-fire SMGs that use small magazines. For those weapons, carrying two or three spare magazines makes sense because you won't have time to refill them in the middle of a close-range fight. Also remember one useful shortcut: pressing C automatically starts loading loose ammunition into your magazines. You don't need to drag rounds into each magazine manually.
Best Assault Rifles
Assault rifles remain the most versatile weapons in the game. They work at close and medium range, and some models can comfortably reach much farther with the right setup.
AK74
The AK74 unlocks fairly early and is the first genuinely worthwhile upgrade over the starter rifle. It has good damage, high muzzle velocity, and manageable recoil. It performs very well at medium range, although sustained fire over longer distances makes its vertical recoil more noticeable. You don't need to stay with the AK74 for too long, though. It works well as an intermediate weapon until you unlock the Galil.
Galil
The Galil is one of the strongest all-around assault rifles in the game and a clear step up from the AK74. It comes with a standard 35-round magazine, slightly higher muzzle velocity, and solid damage. Its rate of fire isn't excessively high, which makes the weapon easier to control at medium and long range.Even if your recoil control isn't perfect, the Galil can reliably take down enemies at a distance. If you don't want to constantly replace your weapon as you progress, you can comfortably keep using the Galil for a long time.
M4
The M4 is more divisive because players tend to have very different opinions about it. On paper, it is one of the strongest assault rifles. It fires at around 800 rounds per minute, has good muzzle velocity, and can be effective at almost any distance. Its main drawback is the combination of high fire rate and recoil. If you can control the weapon well, the M4 becomes one of the best general-purpose rifles in the game. If you can't, the Galil may feel much more comfortable and effective.Try the M4 yourself before committing to it, and don't rush to sell your Galil as soon as the new weapon unlocks.
FAL
The FAL unlocks much later and is expensive, but in terms of raw damage, it is one of the most dangerous assault rifles in the game. Its biggest advantage is massive damage and an extremely fast time to kill. At close range, it can erase an enemy with a short burst, while at distance you can switch to semi-auto and use the FAL almost like a marksman rifle.Equip a good optic, and if necessary, carry a magnified sight in your backpack and swap it during the match. The drawbacks are serious as well: high price, heavy recoil, and awkward magazine economy. Losing a full FAL kit after every death can get expensive very quickly. If money is no longer a concern, however, the FAL is absolutely worth trying.
Which Assault Rifle Is Best?
Image unavailable
At lower levels, use the AK74, then move to the Galil.
The M4 is better suited to players who are comfortable controlling vertical recoil and enjoy a high rate of fire.
The FAL is one of the strongest late-game options, especially if you want a versatile assault rifle that can almost double as a DMR.
Best Submachine Guns
SMGs are extremely strong in the current version of WARDOGS. They excel at close range, while some of the later options remain surprisingly effective even at medium distance.Image unavailable
MP9
The MP9 costs only around $900 and is one of the best budget weapons in the game. It has very low recoil, a high rate of fire, and one of the best muzzle velocities among SMGs. Its standard 20-round magazines take up only one inventory slot, and later you can equip a 50-round drum.It is an excellent Medic weapon, especially if you prefer moving with the main group.
PP-19 Vityaz
The PP-19 Vityaz looks like a natural upgrade over the MP9, but in practice, the choice isn't that simple. It gets larger magazines, but loses out to the MP9 in recoil, muzzle velocity, and inventory efficiency. The drum magazine takes up three slots, which is especially awkward with early backpacks. The PP-19 Vityaz is still perfectly usable and performs well at close range. But if you're already comfortable with the MP9, there isn't much reason to switch.
MP5
The MP5 is slightly more comfortable than the PP-19 Vityaz, with better muzzle velocity and more manageable recoil. Don't expect a massive jump in effectiveness, though. It is simply a solid intermediate option. If money is tight, you can safely skip the MP5 and keep using what you already have.
Super-45
The Super-45 is a completely different story. In the current balance, it is one of the strongest weapons in WARDOGS. It uses .45 ACP, deals noticeably more damage than standard 9mm SMGs, and still fires at a very high rate. Its defining feature is the almost nonexistent vertical recoil. With a drum magazine, optic, and a good foregrip, the Super-45 effectively turns into a laser. At close range, enemies disappear almost instantly, and the low recoil keeps the weapon effective at medium range as well. Its only major drawback is that you won't unlock the Super-45 until a high Medic level. If the balance hasn't changed by the time you get it, make sure to try it.
Are Shotguns Worth Using?
Shotguns look tempting at lower levels, especially while you're leveling Support. In most situations, however, they lose out to automatic weapons. The double-barrel shotgun is cheap and can use slugs, which technically turns it into a kind of budget rifle. Once you unlock more serious weapons, however, there is little reason to go back to it.Image unavailableThe pump-action shotgun is much more interesting. You can mount an optic and use slugs, effectively turning it into a cheap DMR. It also remains dangerous at close range.
The problem is simple:
If you miss the first shot or need several hits to kill the target, an automatic weapon will almost certainly finish the fight faster. We wouldn't recommend investing heavily in shotguns.
How to Use Machine Guns
The M249 SAW and PKM can deal enormous amounts of damage, but only when used correctly. Don't try to play them like ordinary assault rifles. Machine guns are heavy, take a long time to aim, and sway badly after sprinting.Once you deploy the bipod, however, everything changes.Image unavailableFind a window, rooftop edge, or another useful piece of cover, deploy the bipod, and start controlling the area. Recoil drops dramatically, allowing the M249 SAW and PKM to mow down entire groups of enemies.
The PKM deals more damage, while the M249 SAW is easier to control.
Always use magazines or boxes holding at least 100 rounds. Small magazines remove the main advantage of using an LMG.
3x or 4x optics and a suppressor also work well.
Snipers are the biggest danger. As soon as the enemy figures out where you're firing from, your stationary position can quickly turn into a trap.
How to Start Leveling Recon Quickly
The starter Scout Rifle TD is so weak that there is almost no reason to level Recon with it directly. It is a single-shot rifle, and even an accurate headshot does not always kill the target.Instead, play another role, bring Binoculars, and spot enemies. Spotting still rewards Recon XP. Keep doing this until you reach level 5 and unlock the SKS.Image unavailable
SKS
After the Scout Rifle TD, switching to the SKS feels like a huge upgrade. The rifle performs well at medium and long range, and with armor-piercing ammunition it can quickly deal with heavily protected targets. The main downside is that rounds have to be loaded manually, so a full reload takes a while. On the other hand, you don't need to carry magazines at all. Just bring several stacks of ammunition and free up extra backpack slots.Make sure to try the bipod. Once the weapon is deployed on a surface, recoil becomes almost nonexistent.
SVD
The SVD is one of the best upgrades after the SKS. It is more accurate, has higher muzzle velocity, deals strong damage, and uses detachable magazines. That last point makes reloading considerably faster than with the SKS.The weapon is more expensive, but the difference is justified. If you play Recon regularly, the SVD is worth buying as soon as it unlocks.
BMR-308
The BMR-308 continues the same semi-automatic marksman rifle progression. Its biggest advantage is the 20-round magazine, which makes fighting several enemies at once much easier. However, its maximum optic magnification is limited to 4x. For very long-range shooting, the SVD may therefore be more comfortable.Ultimately, the choice depends on your preferred engagement distance. The SVD is better for traditional long-range sniping, while the BMR-308 suits more aggressive medium-range play.
Which Sniper Rifles Are Best?
Sniping improves considerably once you unlock proper bolt-action rifles.Image unavailable
Mosin Nagant
Once you get the Mosin Nagant, you can forget about the starter Scout Rifle TD. The rifle can kill enemies wearing Tier 2 armor with a headshot and remains effective at long range.Even so, semi-automatic DMRs are often more practical in the current balance. If your first shot doesn't kill the enemy, landing a follow-up shot with the SVD or BMR-308 is much faster.
SV98
The SV98 is very similar to the Mosin Nagant in terms of damage. Its main advantage is a more convenient magazine system, so the upgrade is mostly about faster reloads. If you're completely satisfied with your current rifle, you can safely skip the SV98.
MK22
The MK22 is a more meaningful upgrade. It deals slightly more damage and, with proper shot placement, can kill a well-armored enemy with two body shots. For a bolt-action rifle, saving even one shot matters, which makes the MK22 much more appealing than the previous upgrade.
AMR 50
The AMR 50 sits at the top of the standard sniper rifle progression. It can kill even enemies wearing heavy Tier 4 armor with a headshot, while two body shots are often enough for a kill.If you want the most powerful weapon possible for extreme-range engagements, there are very few better options.Keep in mind that this style of play isn't always helpful to your team. If you're lying a kilometer away from the Hot Zone and getting one kill every few minutes, you may not be making the match any easier for your squad.
Is the Bow Worth Using?
The Compound Bow is very unusual and heavily affected by the enemy's armor. Early in a match, when most players are still wearing weak protection, it can kill with a single hit to almost any part of the body. Even against stronger armor, the damage remains respectable.Arrows also have no damage falloff over distance. You cannot mount optics or other attachments, however, so long-range accuracy is entirely up to you.The weapon also requires the right distance and position. Otherwise, a regular assault rifle will be far more convenient. In the hands of a skilled player, the Compound Bow can be genuinely dangerous, especially early in a match.Image unavailable
Which Pistols Should You Carry?
Most loadouts don't need a secondary weapon at all. If you're carrying an assault rifle, SMG, or DMR, the extra weight and inventory space are better spent on ammunition, medical supplies, or grenades. The main exception is a traditional sniper loadout. A bolt-action rifle is almost useless when an enemy suddenly appears at close range, so a pistol can genuinely save you there. The GGX 18 is especially useful thanks to a rate of fire of around 1,200 rounds per minute, effectively turning it into a tiny SMG at close range. The Deagle deals massive damage, but the weapon itself is heavy, and once you add magazines and ammunition, it eats up too much of your weight allowance. If you just want a simple backup weapon for a sniper build, the GGX 18 is the better choice.
Which Attachments Should You Use?
Don't buy every attachment simply because you've unlocked it. Most weapons in WARDOGS are affected primarily by vertical recoil, so attachments focused on horizontal recoil reduction are usually less valuable. For foregrips, prioritize options that specifically reduce vertical recoil. The TDG Vertical Foregrip is one of the strongest late-game choices.Optics are genuinely useful. Many of them not only provide a clearer sight picture but also affect ADS handling, while the base aim-down-sights speed in WARDOGS can feel quite slow. For assault rifles and SMGs, a standard red dot works perfectly well. For the SKS and other DMRs, the CQ-2x Prism Combat Scope is a strong option because it offers 2x magnification and works well at medium range. If you're planning on true long-range sniping, use a 6x optic or something even stronger. You don't need to buy a muzzle brake immediately. The recoil on most assault rifles can already be controlled reasonably well by simply pulling the mouse down. Save your money until suppressors become available.
Why Bipods Are So Strong
In the current balance, bipods are among the most useful attachments for machine guns and long-range weapons. Deploying them on a surface or going prone removes a huge amount of recoil. They work especially well with:
M249 SAW.
PKM.
SKS.
SVD.
BMR-308.
If you're planning to hold one area for an extended period, make sure to use a bipod.
What to Bring as Medic
Until you unlock the Defibrillator, always bring the free Emergency Resuscitator. The first one costs nothing, and reviving teammates gives you both money and Medic XP.Bandages are useful for more than healing yourself. Using them on teammates also helps level Medic.Once you unlock the Defibrillator, switch to it, but make sure to carry spare Batteries. Its charge drains fairly quickly, so a single Battery may not last through a long fight. The Medical Bag is useful as well, but it takes up a lot of space. With a small backpack, you're usually better off leaving it behind.
What to Bring as Support
At the first few Support levels, your equipment options are fairly limited. The Medium Hammer doesn't unlock anything dramatically different from the Small Hammer, so if you want to focus seriously on building, try to reach the Large Hammer as quickly as possible. It is required for most major structures. The RPG-7 is useful against vehicles, but rockets take up a huge amount of space. A small helicopter can go down from one well-placed hit, while heavier vehicles require several shots.Against tanks, C4 is often more convenient. Guided launchers become available later and are much easier to use than the basic RPG-7.
Recommended Loadout After a Few Levels
Once you've earned some money and unlocked the AK74, you can gradually move toward a more serious kit.We recommend carrying:
AK74 or Galil.
Three magazines.
One stack of loose ammunition.
Operator Backpack or a larger backpack.
Tier 2 armor or better.
Free Emergency Resuscitator.
Around ten Bandages.
Two frag grenades.
Two smoke grenades.
Smoke is especially useful when playing with a group. If a teammate goes down in the open, throw a smoke grenade, block the enemy's line of sight, and revive them safely. As your income increases, prioritize upgrading your armor and backpack. Both provide too much value for their price to justify cutting costs there.
Which Weapon Should You Unlock as Quickly as Possible?
If we're talking purely about progression, there are several important milestones:
For Assault, aim for the Galil. It is much more comfortable than the early AK74 and remains strong even after the next weapon unlocks.
For Medic, aim for the Super-45. In the current balance, it is one of the most dangerous automatic weapons in the game.
For Recon, get the SKS. Until then, it is easier to level by spotting with Binoculars on another role instead of using the starter rifle.
For later Recon progression, choose the SVD or BMR-308 depending on your preferred engagement distance.
For traditional sniping, the Mosin Nagant is your first serious rifle, while the AMR 50 is the long-term goal.
For Support, use an LMG with a large magazine and bipod if you prefer holding defensive positions.
Which Weapons Should You Skip?
Some weapons can be skipped with very little downside:
Replace the starter rifles as soon as possible. They have mediocre accuracy, low muzzle velocity, and very limited attachment options.
The Scout Rifle TD isn't worth using to level Recon. It is easier to carry Binoculars on another role until the SKS unlocks.
The PP-19 Vityaz and MP5 are both decent, but neither is a major upgrade over the MP9.
The SV98 is only worth buying if you specifically want a more convenient magazine system after the Mosin Nagant.
The double-barrel shotgun becomes obsolete very quickly.
Most loadouts don't need a pistol unless you're using a bolt-action sniper rifle.
What Are the Best Weapons Right Now?
If you want the most versatile assault rifles, look at the Galil, M4, and FAL. The Galil is the easiest to control, the M4 becomes excellent in the hands of someone who can manage its recoil, and the FAL offers huge damage while also working almost like a DMR.Among SMGs, the MP9 stands out for its price, while the Super-45 becomes one of the best options once you unlock it.At medium and long range, the SVD and BMR-308 are both extremely strong. Semi-automatic marksman rifles are often more practical than traditional sniper rifles because they let you switch between multiple targets quickly. Machine guns are excellent only when you're playing around a fixed position and making proper use of a bipod. And if you've only just started playing, don't rush to spend money on every new weapon. In WARDOGS, buying a good backpack, better armor, and a healthy supply of ammunition is usually much more valuable than replacing your gun every time another model unlocks. Upgrade only when the next weapon offers a meaningful advantage.
