The Escapists 3 Will Be the Series' First 3D Game

Team17 has announced The Escapists 3, the third main entry in the prison-break simulation series and the first one built in 3D. The game is coming in 2027 to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.The developers promise five prisons, more than 120 items and weapons to loot or craft, and the return of co-op. Players can escape alone, play locally with two players in split-screen, or go online with up to four people.The move from the familiar 2D presentation to a full 3D prison sandbox is the biggest visual change in the sequel. The original flat art style was a major part of The Escapists' identity, so the new perspective is also one of the biggest risks for the project. The core structure remains recognizable, however: learn prison routines, work jobs, gather supplies, craft tools, dig, sneak, fight, disguise yourself, and improvise your own escape route.Almost a decade separates The Escapists 2 from the announcement of the third main game. For Team17, best known for Worms and The Escapists, the sequel is an attempt to bring the prison-escape sandbox series back with a much more ambitious presentation.
