Owlcat Games has released a new gameplay trailer focused on the investigation mechanics in Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy. As an acolyte of the Inquisition, players will gather evidence, question witnesses and suspects, compare testimony, and ultimately decide who deserves judgement.Owlcat Games has taken another detailed look at the Investigation system in Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy, one of the core mechanics designed to distinguish the CRPG from the studio's previous work. Players will search crime scenes for evidence, interrogate witnesses and suspects, check statements for contradictions, and use specialized equipment such as auspex scanners and servo-skulls.
The key idea is that an investigation does not always lead to one morally clean answer. Dark Heresy uses a dedicated Detective Journal to organize evidence, connections, conclusions, and active cases. The same clue can point toward several possible explanations, and Owlcat explicitly allows the player to reach an incorrect conclusion and still move forward with the consequences. That fits the philosophy of the Inquisition, where finding the objective truth is not always the same thing as achieving the politically useful outcome. Players may be forced to choose between exposing the actual culprit, protecting a larger investigation, sacrificing a weaker ally, or tolerating a lesser transgression to pursue a more dangerous form of heresy.Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy is in development for PC and consoles, with the PC beta already available to eligible founders who pre-ordered through Owlcat's website. The beta runs on Steam and is planned to remain available until release. The game uses turn-based combat and a conviction system built around difficult moral choices. The Steam version currently lists Russian interface text and subtitles, but not Russian voice acting. A final release date has not yet been announced.
