Enshrouded 1.0 launches on October 15, 2026, and mages are getting one of the most substantial combat overhauls in the update. The developers are adding nine spells, including skeleton and elemental totem summons, reworking wands, and allowing Eternal spells to be upgraded. Below, we break down the confirmed changes and three promising mage archetypes.

Which mage build should you choose in Enshrouded 1.0?

The most versatile option looks like a battlemage using a wand, staff, and defensive skills. It opens fights with a powerful spell, switches to the wand when enemies close the distance, and retreats when necessary. In 1.0, this playstyle will be supported by a new skill that boosts the next staff attack after a critical wand hit. That does not mean every mage should follow the same template. The update will make a true summon-focused specialization possible for the first time, while players who prefer ranged combat will get new area-of-effect spells. We would split the mage into three archetypes:
 • Battlemage - the most flexible option for solo play. A wand and magical shield for mobile combat, a staff for heavy attacks, mana recovery, and defensive skills.
 • Elemental Mage - focused on group damage. Built around the staff, Intelligence, faster casting, and area magic. Especially interesting for co-op.
 • Summoner - totems and skeletons. A new option for players who want combat to revolve around summoned creatures and magical constructs rather than only their own attacks.
These are preliminary recommendations because the developers have not yet revealed the exact limits and stats of summoned allies.

Best all-around build: Battlemage with a wand and staff

If you want one build for world exploration, dungeons, and boss fights, we would start with the Battlemage. A wand lets you maintain pressure without consuming spell charges, while the staff remains your tool for more powerful attacks. Add a magical shield and survival skills, and the build becomes far more forgiving than standing still and relying on the longest casting animations.

Which attributes and skills should you prioritize?

Intelligence remains the main stat to watch for magical damage. In the current version, increasing it strengthens magical attacks, so start with accessible Intelligence nodes and useful skills in the connected branches. After that, pay attention to Health and survivability. A large mana pool will not help if you die before finishing a cast. For a Battlemage, we recommend the following priorities:
 1. Intelligence and wand skills. In the current tree, useful options include Wand Master, which can create an additional projectile, and Unity, which helps restore mana while attacking with a wand.
 2. Mobility. Blink replaces the normal dodge with a short teleport, while Double Jump helps you take advantageous positions. Both are especially useful for a character who does not want to absorb every hit.
 3. Self-healing. Water Aura and Waters of Life are a proven survival foundation in Early Access. The aura helps restore Health for you and nearby allies.
 4. Blast and Cast - a new 1.0 skill. After a critical wand hit, the base damage of your next staff attack is increased by 50% if you use it within ten seconds.
 5. Faster casting. Quick Charge is useful if the staff is a regular part of your rotation rather than something sitting unused in a second weapon slot.
Do not treat this order as a fixed route through the skill tree. In 1.0, Keen Games is changing the placement, cost, and effects of some skills, and all allocated points will be reset automatically. Find the updated nodes first, then spend your points. Building an exact point-by-point route before launch would simply mean presenting an old build as a new one.

How to play the Battlemage

Start fights with the staff while enemies are still at range and you have time to prepare. When they close the distance, switch to the wand and remember to use your shield. In version 1.0, wands are also getting a heavy attack. Its projectiles can pass through enemies and interrupt weaker targets. In tight corridors, that may be more useful than another slow spell.Practice the new Blast and Cast interaction separately. Land a critical hit with the wand, then switch to the staff and cast an appropriate spell within the ten-second window. The developers specifically say the bonus applies to the base damage of the next staff attack, not that your entire final damage total is automatically multiplied by 1.5. The release balance will determine which combinations benefit from it most.

Elemental Mage build: Maximum spell damage

This is the option for players who want to destroy groups before they can get close. The staff is your main weapon, while the wand acts as a backup at short range and helps you maintain combat tempo. This kind of mage works best when you can take high ground, choose a good firing position, and control enemy approaches.Start with Intelligence, Quick Charge, Chain Hit, and Mass Destruction if those skills retain their core functions in the release build. Blink and Water Aura remain useful for support. Do not immediately spend every point on Fire or Shock damage because the developers have already confirmed a rework of enemy weaknesses. It is safer to keep spells from at least two damage types available. In Early Access, Eternal Fireball and Eternal Chain Lightning remain popular foundations for ranged mage builds. Fireball works well against packed groups, while Chain Lightning suits enemies standing close enough for the electrical damage to spread. After 1.0 launches, compare them with Blizzard and Ball Lightning, both of which Keen Games explicitly describes as tools for fighting groups of enemies. The main risk is spending all your mana on one combination. Look for gear that improves resource recovery and keep faster spells available for finishing weakened targets.

Summoner build: Skeletons and elemental totems

Summoner is the most interesting new mage specialization in Enshrouded 1.0. The game already had necromancy elements, but the update adds dedicated summoning spells. The developers have confirmed four options: Fire, Ice, and Shock Totems, plus Summon Hollow Skeleton. The first skills to watch are the ones that directly strengthen this specialization:
 • Advanced Necromancy increases the number of skeletons you can summon at the same time.
 • Totem Mastery increases the number of active summoned totems.
 • Mana Drain may become useful in longer fights. The spell drains a fixed amount of mana from enemies each second and adds it to your own pool.
 • Entangle is designed to control dangerous enemies and looks like a useful way to buy time for your other spells.
We would not invest in both summoning branches in advance just to maximize the number of helpers. First, test how useful the skeletons actually are, how the totems behave, and how much mana it takes to maintain them. A totem-focused build with strong AoE spells may prove more efficient. Or skeletons may be so useful in solo play that sacrificing part of your own damage is worthwhile. For now, these are ideas to test rather than an established meta.Do not confuse the new skeleton summon with the old Necromancer skill. In Early Access, that skill could create an ally after you killed an enemy with a magical weapon. Summon Hollow Skeleton is a separate spell, so the old mechanics and values should not be transferred to it automatically.

All nine new spells in Enshrouded 1.0

Keen Games has officially revealed the names of the new spells, although detailed stats for most of them are still unavailable. We have grouped them below by their likely role in a build.
 • Mana Drain - transfers mana from an enemy into your own pool at a fixed rate per second. It is designed for resource management.
 • Entangle - a crowd-control spell that the developers recommend against tougher enemies.
 • Pillar of Flames - a new Fire spell. Its exact area, duration, and damage have not been revealed before launch.
 • Blizzard - an area spell intended for groups of enemies. Do not assume a specific slow or freeze strength before release.
 • Ball Lightning - another confirmed way to damage multiple targets at once.
 • Summon Fire Totem - the first of three new elemental totem summons.
 • Summon Ice Totem - the Ice variant. Any additional effects still need to be tested.
 • Summon Shock Totem - the Shock totem. Its exact targeting behavior and range are still unknown.
 • Summon Hollow Skeleton - a new necromancy spell that summons a friendly skeleton.
At the moment, the exact damage values, mana costs, casting times, summon durations, default summon limits, and acquisition methods for each new spell are still unknown. Any complete stat tables published before 1.0 launches should therefore be treated with particular caution.

Five new mage skills and the wand rework

The developers are improving wand targeting and fixing issues when switching to a staff. The new skills are designed to make alternating between those weapon types part of a proper combat rotation. The five new mage skills are:
 1. Aerial Wand Attack - a wand attack performed in midair that deals area damage.
 2. Wand Evasion Attack - makes moving combat smoother by firing wider projectiles capable of passing through multiple targets.
 3. Advanced Necromancy - increases the number of skeletons you can summon.
 4. Totem Mastery - lets you have more summoned totems active at once.
 5. Blast and Cast - after a critical wand hit, increases the base damage of your next staff attack by 50% if used within ten seconds.
In our view, the final skill is especially important for an all-around build. Its real value will depend on critical-hit frequency, weapon-switching speed, and spell costs.

Best weapons and armor for a mage

In version 1.0, the equipment level cap rises to 55, so the current max-level set cannot automatically be called the best endgame gear anymore. Still, Early Access builds give us some useful reference points to prepare around. For an Elemental Mage in current version 0.9.1.2 builds, commonly used options include the Violet Storm staff, Circlet of Lightning, and pieces of the Tidecaller set. These appear in setups focused on Shock damage, critical hits, mana, and staff spell power. This is not a confirmed best-in-slot set for 1.0. New level 55 gear may replace it after launch. Also, do not judge armor only by the set name. Since the Forging the Path update, pieces can offer different balances of physical and magical protection. In solo play, a tougher chest piece can sometimes be more useful than another damage bonus. A ranged mage usually benefits more from a strong staff, mana recovery, and critical-hit stats.Remember to upgrade items with Runes. That system already exists in Early Access, while 1.0 adds upgrades for Eternal spells alongside weapon and armor upgrades. The developers have mentioned perks such as reduced mana cost. After launch, compare not only spell power but also efficiency. In a long fight, a cheaper spell can sometimes outperform the one with the largest damage number.

What is changing with Eternal spells?

Enshrouded 1.0 will include 22 Tier 7 Eternal spell versions. The developers are also expanding the number of tiers for existing and new spells so that a favorite combination does not become obsolete too quickly when moving into the next biome. Mana costs and casting speeds are being rebalanced as well, with especially powerful attacks requiring more preparation time.

How to level a mage to Level 50

Enshrouded does not use fixed classes, so you can combine skills from different branches. It is better to build a functional foundation than to plan an exact point distribution for a version that has not launched yet.

Early game

Start by developing Intelligence, then get a reliable wand and staff and unlock useful movement skills that are easy to reach. Early on, being able to dodge in time or clear an obstacle with a jump is usually more valuable than a complicated combo that depends on a large mana pool and rare gear. Once you gain access to the Alchemist and magical equipment, gradually replace generic armor with pieces that provide useful bonuses.

Mid game

This is where you should choose a direction. A Battlemage strengthens wand combat and looks for ways to recover mana during fights. An Elemental Mage develops casting speed and area damage while keeping Water Aura. If you decide to play a Summoner after 1.0 launches, start by testing the available skeleton and totem spells before investing points into every summon option at once.

High levels and preparation for the final areas

Later on, focus less on how many skills you have unlocked and more on how well they work together. Ask whether you have enough mana for the rotation, whether the mage can survive a sudden attack, and whether you have an alternate element against a resistant enemy. In 1.0, the player level cap rises to 50 and equipment can reach Level 55, but the final point distribution will need to be checked against the updated tree.If you are returning with an old character, open the skill tree before your first trip outside the base. In 1.0, all allocated points will be reset because of the system rework. A familiar character with no newly selected skills may be much weaker than you remember.

Which mage build is best overall?

Before Enshrouded 1.0 launches, we would prioritize a Battlemage with a wand and staff. Its core combat loop is already proven in Early Access, while the new wand heavy attack and Blast and Cast skill create room for additional combos. If you play with friends and can safely attack from range, the Elemental Mage with Blizzard and Ball Lightning is also worth considering. For now, the Summoner should be treated as the most interesting experiment in the update. Being able to summon skeletons and multiple totems opens a new playstyle, but without exact summon stats there is no way to guarantee that it will rank first for damage or survivability. After October 15, the decisive factors will be the real summon limits, placement of the new skills, spell stats, and properties of Level 55 gear. Those are the details that should determine the final best build for the release version.
