The Witcher 3 Remastered All Griffin School Gear Sets: Where to Find the Diagrams

Griffin School gear in The Witcher 3 is one of the best choices for Geralt if you rely heavily on Signs. Remastered did not move the old diagram caches, so they are still scattered across Velen, Skellige, and Toussaint. That means you can still build the set gradually as you progress. We recommend taking your time and following the gear tiers in order. To craft each new version, a blacksmith or armorer needs the previous one, so simply collecting the mastercrafted diagrams will not let you skip the earlier stages. Unlike Bear or Cat School gear, this set does not include a crossbow. The complete set consists of four armor pieces, a steel sword, and a silver sword.

How to collect every Griffin School diagram: quick overview

If you just want to check your collection quickly:

• Standard: Dragonslayer's Grotto for all four armor pieces. Hindhold for the steel sword. Lornruk for the silver sword.
• Enhanced: White Eagle Fort for the armor. Frischlow for the gauntlets. Burned Ruins for the trousers. Ruins northwest of the Inn at the Crossroads for the boots. A camp on Velen's western coast for the steel sword. A cave east of Crossroads near Bald Mountain for the silver sword.
• Superior: Giants' Toes for all four armor pieces. An Skellig, north of the Bay of Winds, for the steel sword. A cave near Elverum Lighthouse for the silver sword.
• Mastercrafted: The cyclops-guarded ruins southeast of Whale Graveyard for all four armor pieces. Ruins east of Fornhala for the silver sword. Ruins east of Boxholm for the steel sword.
• Grandmaster: Fort Ussar Ruins for the steel sword, gauntlets, and boots. Mont Crane Castle for the armor, trousers, and silver sword.

How to start the Griffin School Gear scavenger hunt

The base quest Scavenger Hunt: Griffin School Gear can be started simply by finding any of the diagrams. The easiest option, however, is to buy Edwin Greloff's maps from merchants and craftsmen. The first maps are sold by the armorer in Midcopse, while later maps gradually reveal the search areas for the enhanced, superior, and mastercrafted sets.The set is medium armor and focuses on Sign Intensity. If you enjoy using Yrden, Igni, Aard, or Quen, it is absolutely worth collecting Griffin gear as you progress rather than abandoning the scavenger hunts. In Remastered, we also recommend deciding on your key skills in advance. The skill tree has been significantly reworked, so old builds from version 4.04 cannot simply be copied over one for one.

Standard Griffin School Gear

The entire starting set is found in Velen. All four armor diagrams are stored in one chest, while the two swords require trips to separate locations. It is a very convenient early-game set. The main thing is not to pick fights with every high-level monster CD Projekt RED thoughtfully placed next to the caches you need.

Armor, gauntlets, trousers, and boots

Travel to Dragonslayer's Grotto, north of Crookback Bog and southeast of Downwarren. There are wraiths inside, and deeper in the cave your path is blocked by a destructible wall. Use Aard and keep moving forward. Next comes a section filled with poisonous gas and another stone barrier. We recommend not throwing Igni around carelessly because the gas can explode and drain Geralt's health faster than the local monsters. An ekimmara awaits in the final large chamber, while the chest containing all four armor diagrams is up the stairs.

Steel sword

The steel sword diagram is located at Hindhold, near the Pontar. The road to the tower runs through endrega territory, and harpies usually circle above the ruins. Climb into the structure and find the small annex with a door. Inside is a skeleton with a chest nearby. Take the diagram and the letter, which points toward the next location. If you come here at a low level, we recommend dealing with the harpies first.

Silver sword

The final base diagram is hidden at Lornruk, the abandoned fortress northwest of Crow's Perch. A wyvern circles above the ruins, but you do not actually need to kill it. The real problem is getting inside. The bridge is raised, so you cannot enter the fortress directly. Go down to the water near the Place of Power and find the underwater passage beneath the rocks. Swim into the cave, climb over the rocks and ladders, and make your way into Lornruk. Once inside, you can lower the bridge with the winch. The chest containing the Griffin silver sword diagram is near the grindstone.

Enhanced Griffin School Gear

All enhanced diagrams are once again found in Velen and around Oxenfurt, but this time every item is stored separately. We recommend collecting them in one loop around the map. The distances are fairly short, and several locations are close to places the main story will take Geralt anyway.

Enhanced armor

Travel to White Eagle Fort west of Oxenfurt. This is where the rock troll Trollololo lives, and he is tied to the quest Volunteer. You do not need to fight him for the diagram. The chest is right next to his improvised shelter. Take the Enhanced Griffin armor diagram and deal with the troll however you like afterward. This is one of the rare witcher gear hunts that does not require slaughtering half the local wildlife first.

Enhanced gauntlets

Travel to Frischlow in southern Velen and head toward the cave by the cemetery. The entrance is partially blocked by rocks, so clear them with Aard. You will encounter wraiths and a noonwraith inside, while the chest with the diagram is deeper in the cave.

Enhanced trousers

The diagram is at the Burned Ruins east of Crow's Perch. Approach the charred remains from the western side and inspect the collapsed beams. The chest is hidden among the wooden debris.

Enhanced boots

From the Inn at the Crossroads, head northwest toward the large ruined buildings near the edge of the peninsula. A forktail may appear in the area. The chest you need is in the northwestern section of the ruins among the stones and collapsed walls.

Enhanced steel sword

Look for the bandit camp on Velen's western coast, southwest of the Refugees' Camp and near Condyle. The diagram is in an open chest at the top of a stone staircase among brick ruins. We recommend taking out the archers before climbing up. The location itself is not difficult, but several bandits fighting around explosive barrels can make a simple diagram run much more entertaining than expected.

Enhanced silver sword

Travel to the Crossroads signpost west of Bald Mountain. From there, head east into the cave and follow it all the way to the end. There are no enemies inside, and the chest with the Enhanced Griffin silver sword diagram is against the right wall in the final section.

Superior Griffin School Gear

The superior diagrams move the search to Skellige. The route is much shorter here because all four armor diagrams are stored together. You only need to visit three locations in total: one for the armor and two for the swords.

Superior armor, gauntlets, trousers, and boots

In the far northeast of Ard Skellig, find Giants' Toes. A bandit camp sits along the rocky shoreline. Follow the beach to its end, using the wrecked boat and cliffs as landmarks. Behind the boat is a chest containing all four Superior Griffin armor diagrams. We recommend clearing the camp first. The area is very open, so trying to loot everything while arrows are flying at you is less convenient than it sounds.

Superior steel sword

Travel to An Skellig and head north of the Bay of Winds. The road climbs toward a cliff and a bandit camp. Find the improvised shrine and look for the chest directly behind it.

Superior silver sword

The cave you need is near Elverum Lighthouse, on the southern coast of the Kaer Muire peninsula. There are no enemies inside, making this one of the calmest stops in the entire scavenger hunt. At the fork, turn right and continue until you reach the statue deep in the cave. Two chests stand behind it, and one contains the Superior Griffin silver sword diagram.

Mastercrafted Griffin School Gear

The mastercrafted diagrams also remain on Skellige. As with the superior tier, the four armor pieces are stored in one cache while the swords are separate. By this point, we recommend already having the superior versions of every item. Otherwise, after collecting the new diagrams, you will still need to go back and craft the earlier upgrades first.

Mastercrafted armor, gauntlets, trousers, and boots

Head to the eastern coast of Ard Skellig and look for the cyclops-guarded ruins southeast of Whale Graveyard and northeast of Redgill. The cyclops stays below the point you need, so fighting it is not mandatory. Approach from the north and climb the rocks above the ruins. The chest containing all four Mastercrafted Griffin armor diagrams is on the upper level. We recommend taking the high route if you do not want the fight. Defeating the cyclops out of principle does not grant any special reward.

Mastercrafted silver sword

Travel to Fornhala and head toward the ruins beside the lake to the east. Approach the collapsed tower from the south. A chest containing the Mastercrafted Griffin silver sword diagram is on the left side of the ruins.

Mastercrafted steel sword

The final mastercrafted diagram is in the ruins east of Boxholm. Follow the road east from the village. In the ruins, find the wall with the white marking, climb it, and turn left. The chest is on the upper platform.

Grandmaster Griffin School Gear

The final tier is only available in the Blood and Wine expansion. In Beauclair, speak to Lazare Lafargue and take the quest Scavenger Hunt: Grandmaster Griffin Gear. All six diagrams are found at just two locations in eastern Toussaint. Crafting grandmaster gear requires the mastercrafted versions of the corresponding items, so we recommend not selling your old set after each upgrade. Witcher gear progression here works like a very long crafting nesting doll.

Grandmaster steel sword, gauntlets, and boots

Travel to Fort Ussar Ruins in eastern Toussaint. Two slyzards fly above the ruins. You do not have to fight them. If you would rather save time, approach from the east or northeast and quickly take cover among the walls. Use Witcher Senses to find the chest beneath the stone staircase. It contains the Grandmaster Griffin steel sword, gauntlets, and boots diagrams, along with Captain Augustus Fierebras' report. Make sure to read it because the document points toward the remaining half of the set.

Grandmaster armor, trousers, and silver sword

The next stop is Mont Crane Castle, northwest of Fort Ussar Ruins. This is a hanse base packed with high-level bandits. You do not need to clear the entire fortress just for the diagrams. Cleaning out the entrance and lower courtyard is enough. In the courtyard, find the illusory wall and dispel it with the Eye of Nehaleni. A secret laboratory lies behind it. Use Witcher Senses to find the button on the wall, take the crystal from the table, place it in the inactive portal, and power it with Aard.The portal takes Geralt to an old prison where you must defeat a golem. After the fight, search the room carefully. The trousers diagram is in a sack on a chair, the armor diagram is in a small box on a shelf, and the silver sword diagram is on a round table. Do not leave after finding the first item. There is no single chest containing everything here, so it is easy to grab two diagrams and assume the set is complete.

What does the full Grandmaster Griffin set do?

Griffin gear is built around active Sign use. Wearing three grandmaster pieces lets you cast another Sign for free for a short time after using a standard Sign. The full six-piece set significantly strengthens Yrden by increasing the trap's size, speeding up Stamina regeneration, increasing Sign Intensity, and reducing incoming damage while Geralt stands inside the field.That is why we recommend the full Griffin set mainly for builds centered around Yrden, Igni, and other Signs. In Remastered, this playstyle is especially interesting because of the redesigned skill tree. If you eventually get tired of the set's appearance, you do not have to sacrifice its stats because the visuals can be changed through the new system. What happens in New Game +?

In New Game +, the same locations contain Legendary versions of Griffin School gear. The route does not change.
