In Resident Evil Village, Ethan can permanently improve his health, movement speed, and guarding by bringing cooking ingredients to the Duke. To prepare every dish, you need Meat, Poultry, Fish, and three unique rare ingredients obtained from special animals.In this guide, we explain how to unlock the Duke's Kitchen, list all six recipes and their effects, and show where to find the animals needed for every permanent upgrade.
Important: Do not sell cooking ingredients until you have prepared every dish. The number of animals in a playthrough is limited, and Quality Meat, Juicy Game, and Finest Fish can each be obtained only once per playthrough. Completed cooking bonuses are permanent and carry over into New Game+.
How to Unlock the Duke's Kitchen
Cooking becomes available after you finish Castle Dimitrescu, return to the village, obtain the second part of the Winged Key, and speak with the Duke again.Once the feature unlocks, all six dishes appear in the Duke's Kitchen immediately. You do not need to find recipe books or buy the recipes separately.To cook every dish, you need the following total amount of ingredients:
Herbed Fish
Description: Baked fish prepared with herbs and a breaded coating.
Ingredients: Fish x3, Poultry x2.
Effect: Health slightly increases permanently.
This is the cheapest health upgrade and one of the first dishes you can realistically prepare after the kitchen becomes available.
Bird and Beast Pilaf
Description: A filling rice dish made with poultry, meat, and stock.
Ingredients: Poultry x4, Meat x1.
Effect: Damage taken while guarding decreases permanently.

Three-Flavored Mititei
Description: A rich local dish combining fish, poultry, and meat.
Ingredients: Fish x4, Poultry x2, Meat x3.
Effect: Health increases permanently.
This is the second health upgrade and requires only common ingredients.
Tochitura de Pui
Description: A hearty stew prepared with poultry, meat, and the rare Juicy Game ingredient.
Ingredients: Poultry x4, Meat x3, Juicy Game x1.
Effect: Health greatly increases permanently.
Juicy Game comes from the unique blue bird found in the village. Do not sell it, because there is only one in a normal playthrough.
Ciorba de Porc
Description: A rich meat soup prepared with the rare Quality Meat ingredient.
Ingredients: Fish x1, Meat x5, Quality Meat x1.
Effect: Damage taken while guarding greatly decreases permanently.
Old versions of this guide incorrectly listed Poultry x5. The correct ingredient is Meat x5.
Sarmale de Peste
Description: Cabbage rolls prepared with the rare Finest Fish.
Ingredients: Fish x6, Finest Fish x1.
Effect: Movement speed increases permanently.
This is one of the most useful upgrades in the game. The movement speed bonus remains active for the rest of the playthrough and carries over into New Game+.
Where to Find Fish
Fish appear in several pools and waterways throughout the story. You need 14 normal Fish for all six dishes.Useful fishing locations include:
Important: The fish in the early cave after Castle Dimitrescu and some fish in Moreau's Reservoir are missable. If you want every dish in a single playthrough, collect animals whenever you see them.
Where to Find Poultry
Poultry comes primarily from chickens. You need 12 Poultry to prepare every dish.The main chicken locations include:The Reservoir chickens are easy to miss because that part of the map becomes inaccessible after the story progresses.
Where to Find Meat
Normal Meat comes from pigs, goats, and sheep. You need 12 Meat in total.Reliable locations include:Animals can move around inside their spawn areas, so listen for them and check your map. After you discover an animal location, it is usually marked until you collect everything there.
Where to Find Quality Meat - Rare White Pig
Quality Meat comes from a unique white pig.After finishing Castle Dimitrescu and returning to the village, go back toward Luiza's House. Find the small yard with the well behind the house you passed through while helping Elena and her father earlier in the story.A white pig will be roaming around this area. Where to Find Juicy Game - Rare Blue Bird
After returning from Castle Dimitrescu, go to the graveyard near the church and the gate leading back toward the castle.Look at the large tree directly west of the Castle Dimitrescu gate. A bright blue bird is sitting on one of its branches. It stands out clearly from the environment.Shoot the bird, then collect Juicy Game from the ground.The ingredient is required for Tochitura de Pui.If you do not collect it immediately after Castle Dimitrescu, the bird remains available on later village visits. The Photo of a Strange Bird, found near the Beneviento garden area, provides an in-game clue to its location.
Where to Find Finest Fish - Rare Golden Fish
You cannot obtain Finest Fish until after the Moreau section because you need the Crank.Return to the Lone Road between the Altar and the Ceremony Site. Use the Crank to lower the raised drawbridge, cross it, and get into the boat.Sail south along the river until you reach another dock. Leave the boat and follow the path to a small pond.The pond contains normal fish and one golden fish. Which Dishes Should You Cook First?
If you do not yet have enough ingredients for everything, I recommend prioritizing the permanent bonuses according to your playstyle.There is enough food in the campaign to prepare every recipe, provided you do not sell important ingredients and do not skip too many of the missable animals.Resident Evil Village contains six dishes in the Duke's Kitchen. To cook all of them, collect 14 Fish, 12 Poultry, 12 Meat, one Juicy Game, one Quality Meat, and one Finest Fish. The three rare ingredients come from the blue bird, the white pig near Luiza's House, and the golden fish reached by boat after obtaining the Crank.
