In survival games, trouble usually starts with something small. You forget to fill your water supply before heading out, break your last axe, or notice the incoming blizzard too late. And if you are playing with friends, someone will inevitably drag a whole crowd of enemies back to your base. We have collected the best survival games where you can easily spend dozens or even hundreds of hours. The list includes both harsh solo adventures and huge worlds made for exploring together.
What should you play first?
Do not feel like going through the entire list? Here are a few games we recommend starting with:
For atmosphere and exploration: Subnautica and The Long Dark.
For long evenings with friends: Valheim, Enshrouded, and Raft.
For a real challenge: Project Zomboid and Green Hell.
For survival with gunfights: Rust and DayZ.
For something different: Abiotic Factor, Pacific Drive, and The Planet Crafter.
For 2026 releases: Subnautica 2 and Windrose.
Subnautica: Just keep swimming
About the Game
Subgenre: Underwater survival, exploration.
Players: 1.
Pricing: Paid.
SubnauticaSubnauticaThe first few minutes of Subnautica are almost deceptively pleasant. Warm ocean all around, colorful fish, wreckage from a crashed spaceship. It feels like you are about to build a cozy underwater home, catch some food, and live happily ever after. Then you dive a little deeper and meet the local sea monsters.Instead of the usual trip for wood, you need to watch your oxygen, search the seabed for materials, craft equipment, and gradually venture into increasingly dangerous depths. At first, even a short dive feels risky, but over time you get your own submarines and can explore places that once seemed completely out of reach. The deeper you go, though, the less appealing it becomes to leave the safety of the cockpit. The best part of Subnautica is the constant urge to find out what is hiding just a little deeper, even when you know perfectly well that it is probably nothing good. The game explains very little directly, which makes exploring an alien planet genuinely exciting. Just do not be surprised if your next encounter with a sea monster gives you an entirely new attitude toward deep water.Steam
The Long Dark: Winter is your most dangerous enemy
The Long DarkThe Long DarkThere are no hordes of mutants or armed raiders here. You are alone in the Canadian wilderness, and nature has absolutely no interest in your plans. Want to walk to the next cabin? Great. The wind just picked up, snow is covering your tracks, and the boots you found should have been thrown away days ago.The Long Dark turns the most ordinary things into small victories. Found some matches? That is already worth celebrating. Boiled water, repaired your jacket, and made it back to the fire before dark? Consider that a successful day. The temperature and clothing systems work especially well. You cannot simply stuff your pockets with food and forget about danger. Wet clothes, exhaustion, and a poorly chosen route can ruin even a well-prepared expedition.Alongside the WINTERMUTE story campaign, there is a separate Survival mode. That is where The Long Dark works best. Nobody tells you where to go or what to do, so even a short supply run can become a serious challenge. If you have wanted a survival game where finding a can of food feels more exciting than getting a new weapon, give it a try. Just do not expect a fast pace. Sometimes even a trip to the next building needs to be planned in advance.Steam
Valheim: Build a home, defeat the gods, and try not to lose your friends along the way
About the Game
Subgenre: Fantasy survival, building, adventure.
Players: 1-10.
Pricing: Paid.
ValheimValheimIn Valheim, it is easy to set out for a couple of logs and return three hours later with a story about a sea serpent, a sunken ship, and a friend who decided for some reason to fight a troll. Naturally, you never actually brought the logs back. Those unplanned adventures are exactly why Valheim is so easy to keep returning to.You begin with the simplest tools, build a shelter, cook food, learn new crafts, and gradually unlock new biomes. And without proper food, you will not get far. What you eat determines your Health and Stamina, so it is worth stopping by the kitchen before a serious expedition. Especially if you are heading into a new biome, where the locals will quickly explain why better preparation would have been a good idea.In September 2026, Valheim finally reached version 1.0 and added the Deep North, new materials, weapons, and enemies. If you have not played Valheim in a while, now is a good time to return. And if you are preparing to explore the new biome, check out our detailed Deep North guide. Just decide in advance who is responsible for building. Otherwise, instead of traveling to the edge of the world, you will spend another three evenings decorating the shared base.Steam
Project Zomboid: The story of how you died
About the Game
Subgenre: Hardcore zombie survival, sandbox.
Players: 1, online multiplayer.
Pricing: Paid.
Project ZomboidProject ZomboidYou do not need to meet a horde of the undead to get your character killed in Project Zomboid. It is enough to smash a window with your bare hands, miss a house alarm, or carry so much loot that your survivor can barely move. The game warns you right away that sooner or later you will die. The only question is how long you can last. You have to worry about more than food supplies and the number of zombies outside the window. There is a shelter to maintain, injuries, mood, exhaustion, and food to manage, along with cooking, repairs, farming, and carefully entering buildings. Noise attracts zombies, so a survivor with a great baseball bat is not always in a better position than someone who knew when to run away.Dying after several successful weeks is especially painful in Project Zomboid. Imagine having your own farm, cupboards full of supplies, and a reasonably safe house. Then you drive out for medicine, make one stupid mistake, and everything starts over. Getting used to the interface and the huge number of systems is not easy, but if you enjoy difficult games where every mistake has consequences, Zomboid absolutely deserves your attention.Steam
Sons of the Forest: The island vacation that went horribly wrong
About the Game
Subgenre: Survival horror, building.
Players: 1-8.
Pricing: Paid.
Sons of the ForestSons of the ForestThe island looks like it should be used to film an outdoor tourism commercial. Pine trees, rivers, beautiful beaches, wide clearings. There is just one small detail missing from the brochure: cannibals live in the forest, and something worse is hiding underground. At least Kelvin is with you, an assistant who can handle routine work. Although it is sometimes better to keep an eye on the results.Building works in a more interesting way here than in many other survival games. Instead of relying entirely on preset blueprints, you place logs yourself, build walls, and decide how the house should come together. You can spend hours improving your camp, but sooner or later you need to head into the forest for supplies or descend into one of the caves. At that point, nobody is thinking about pretty architecture anymore.Played alone, Sons of the Forest can be as frightening as a dedicated horror game, especially in the caves. With friends it is less scary, but much funnier. While one person builds, another can calmly explore the island and accidentally bring an entire group of cannibals back to camp.Steam
Subnautica 2: Back into the ocean, this time with friends
About the Game
Subgenre: Underwater survival, co-op exploration.
Players: 1-4.
Pricing: Paid, Early Access.
Subnautica 2Subnautica 2The first Subnautica made you explore the ocean completely alone. Now you can bring up to three friends, though that probably will not make the depths much more relaxing. Especially when someone starts yelling over voice chat after spotting another creature in the dark. The sequel takes place on a different planet, with unfamiliar marine life, underwater caves, and enormous depths that are genuinely frightening to explore at first. The basic routine is familiar from the original: collect resources, watch your oxygen, build underwater bases, and gradually go deeper. The difference is that now you can divide responsibilities. One player can work on the base while the others scout new areas or search for materials needed for new equipment. The important part is making sure everyone remembers the way back.Subnautica 2 entered Early Access on May 14, 2026, so do not expect it to contain as much content as the first game yet. If you want a finished story, start with the original. If the idea of exploring the ocean together with friends sounds more appealing, the sequel is already worth considering.Steam
Green Hell: A jungle where even a scratch can become a problem
About the Game
Subgenre: Realistic jungle survival.
Players: 1-4.
Pricing: Paid.
Green HellGreen HellIn many games, you can eat whatever you find and wait for the Health bar to fill back up. Green Hell looks at that approach with obvious disapproval. What is that on your arm? A scratch? Maybe an infection? And why has your character eaten nothing but bananas for two days? Welcome to the Amazon rainforest, where problems rarely arrive one at a time. You need to pay especially close attention to your character's condition. Got injured? Inspect the affected limb, treat the wound, and make sure no parasites have moved in. Food is complicated too. You cannot simply eat anything, and some plants or water sources may be dangerous. Add the need to find shelter, craft tools, and maintain your character's sanity, and you get one of the most demanding survival games on this list. You can play through the story campaign or jump into free-form survival. The latter is especially fun with friends, when you can split responsibilities and figure out the many systems together. Green Hell is definitely not for anyone who just wants to relax while building a cabin in the jungle. Sometimes you can spend half a day trying to understand why your character is dying again.Steam
Rust: Survival in the woods with terrible neighbors
About the Game
Subgenre: Multiplayer PvP survival.
Players: Online multiplayer, depends on the server.
Pricing: Paid.
RustRustThe shortest possible Rust story goes something like this: wake up with a rock, gather a few resources, build a shack, meet a neighbor, lose the shack. The neighbor may even ask very politely how you are doing first. Other players cause most of the trouble here.Almost everything in Rust revolves around conflict with other players. While you are gathering materials and building your first base, someone else may already be preparing a raid. Four walls and a door are not enough. You need to plan defenses, set traps, wire electricity, and stock weapons. And do not be surprised if the prettiest base on the server also turns out to be the worst one to defend.Today you make an alliance with the neighbors, tomorrow you defend against raiders together, and the day after that you discover that yesterday's friends emptied your entire house. Those stories are why people love Rust, but the game has one major drawback. It demands a huge amount of free time. The server keeps going even when you are offline, so one day you may return to find your base already looted.Steam
DayZ: Meeting another survivor is scarier than a horde of infected
About the Game
Subgenre: Multiplayer post-apocalyptic survival.
Players: Online multiplayer, depends on the server.
Pricing: Paid.
DayZDayZImagine spending half an hour looking for food, finally finding a decent jacket, and then hearing footsteps behind the wall. Who is it? A harmless newcomer, someone who needs help, or a player who has already decided they want your backpack? In DayZ, even a simple introduction becomes a tense scene, and no scripted cutscene is needed. Most of your time is spent wandering through abandoned towns and villages in search of food, medicine, ammunition, and clothing. You can easily die from hunger or disease without ever meeting another player. The infected are dangerous too, but random encounters with survivors are often worse. Sometimes talking works. Sometimes it is better not to start the conversation at all.DayZ is much slower than Rust. You can walk along an empty road for an hour, search houses, and never see anyone. Then gunshots suddenly erupt from the building next door and the boredom disappears instantly. That pace is not for everyone. If you want constant firefights, another game will probably suit you better.Steam
Enshrouded: Build castles, learn magic, and go adventuring
About the Game
Subgenre: Fantasy survival RPG, building.
Players: 1-16.
Pricing: Paid.
EnshroudedEnshroudedIf you are tired of constantly watching hunger and thirst meters, take a look at Enshrouded. You still gather resources, craft equipment, and build homes, but the game puts much more emphasis on adventure. You can explore dungeons, fight bosses, learn magic, and experiment with different character builds. It feels more like a full fantasy RPG that happens to include building and survival systems. The building system deserves particular praise. Enshrouded does not limit you to a handful of preset structures. If you want, you can build a huge castle, an entire village, or a multi-story mansion packed with rooms. Your base also has a practical purpose. As you progress, you find craftspeople, unlock new recipes, and improve equipment. And when you get tired of housekeeping, you can head back out to explore areas covered by the dangerous Shroud.Enshrouded 1.0 is scheduled for October 15, 2026. If you are planning to play a mage, check out our Enshrouded 1.0 mage build guide.Steam
7 Days to Die: Seven days to prepare for the horde
About the Game
Subgenre: Zombie survival, building, base defense.
Players: 1, online co-op and multiplayer.
Pricing: Paid.
7 Days to Die7 Days to DieAt first, everything in 7 Days to Die seems under control. You find tools, strip a couple of abandoned houses for materials, and build a fence. Then the calendar reminds you that day seven is approaching, and suddenly it becomes obvious that your cozy wooden home was never designed for several dozen extremely determined guests.Your main task is to prepare for the horde that arrives every seventh night. Before then, you need to gather materials, stock ammunition, set traps, and reinforce your shelter. Ordinary walls will not hold zombies forever because they can destroy structures. You need to plan your defenses and leave yourself an escape route. Otherwise, the entire week of preparation may end very badly.Preparing with friends is especially fun. You can divide responsibilities in advance: one person reinforces the base, another searches for supplies, and a third collects ammunition and weapons. Then the seventh night arrives and you discover that all three of you somehow forgot one obvious weakness in the defenses. Time to improvise.Steam
Abiotic Factor: Office survival after a very bad experiment
About the Game
Subgenre: Sci-fi survival, co-op.
Players: 1-6.
Pricing: Paid.
Abiotic FactorAbiotic FactorYou have probably heard stories about secret laboratories where scientists accidentally open a portal somewhere they really should not. Usually, a hero with a crowbar shows up and fixes everything. Abiotic Factor asks a much more interesting question: what happens to everyone else? The employees who understand scientific equipment but are not necessarily prepared to fight aliens. After the disaster, the huge research complex becomes a dangerous survival zone. You dismantle office equipment, craft weapons from improvised materials, establish temporary bases, and move from one laboratory to another. The crafting system is particularly funny. A couch cushion can become part of your protection, while a vending machine may be the source of something you desperately need.Instead of the usual forest full of trees, you get a huge scientific facility packed with laboratories, offices, and secret rooms. It is fun to explore alone, but even better with friends, especially when you have to fight another creature using a weapon you just built out of office junk. Fans of old-school sci-fi in the spirit of Half-Life will find plenty to enjoy here.Steam
Don't Starve TogetherDon't Starve TogetherDon't Starve Together looks like an illustration from a strange children's book brought to life. Trees are drawn with crooked lines, the characters resemble cartoon figures, and the world almost invites you to settle down beside a campfire. Do not get comfortable. As soon as night falls, you quickly realize the author of this book never intended to write a happy story. To survive for long, you need to gather food, prepare for changing seasons, craft tools, and manage your character's Sanity. You constantly have to judge risks. Is it worth going after rare resources when darkness is already close? If a friend runs out of food, do you share your last supplies or look after yourself first? Every character also has different strengths and weaknesses, so it is worth thinking about your team before the adventure even begins. At first, you will probably die for the dumbest reasons. You fail to prepare for night, misjudge your food supplies, or attack something that should have been left alone. Eventually you learn to recognize danger in advance, but getting there takes plenty of painful lessons. Preferably with friends, so at least someone can laugh about it afterward.Steam
Raft: Turn a few planks in the ocean into a floating home
About the Game
Subgenre: Ocean survival, co-op, building.
Players: 1, online co-op.
Pricing: Paid.
RaftRaftAt the beginning of Raft, your entire world fits on a miserable patch of wooden planks. You have a hook, trash is floating around you, and a shark circles underneath, clearly considering the whole structure its lunch. The goal seems almost silly: fish out some plastic and wood. A few evenings later, that pathetic raft has turned into a floating mansion with crops, equipment, and a suspicious number of staircases.Early on, almost all of your time goes into pulling debris from the ocean. With those materials, you gradually expand the raft, install water purifiers, set up farming, and craft new equipment. Eventually you unlock navigation tools that let you search for islands. Raft also has a proper story with unusual locations and puzzles, so the game does not stop at construction. It is best with friends. One person can fish and cook, another can build, while a third drives away the shark that keeps trying to bite pieces off the raft. Raft is not as punishing as Green Hell and works better for relaxed co-op evenings. Although even building a simple kitchen can sometimes start a surprisingly serious argument.Steam
Windrose: Pirate-era survival with real sea adventures
WindroseWindroseIn Windrose, you can build your own ship and set out across the seas in search of adventure. Sailing between islands is only part of it. You also fight, hunt for treasure, explore unfamiliar lands, and face enemies who would be perfectly happy to take your loot. There is plenty to keep a new pirate busy.It starts with familiar survival-game work. Chop trees, build a shelter, craft tools, and gradually improve your equipment. But you do not spend the whole game sitting at the base. Islands, dungeons, and boss fights wait ahead. Combat also expects you to dodge at the right moment, parry attacks, and choose suitable weapons. Charging a strong enemy with a saber and no plan is not guaranteed to end well.Windrose entered Early Access in April 2026. You can play alone or with up to eight people, so it is possible to put together a full pirate crew. The game is still in development, which means some mechanics may not work as smoothly as you would like. But if you enjoy pirate themes and have wanted a survival game built around sea travel, Windrose is definitely worth a look.Steam
Grounded 2: An ordinary park becomes a deadly jungle when you are ant-sized
About the Game
Subgenre: Co-op survival, adventure.
Players: 1-4.
Pricing: Paid, Early Access.
Grounded 2Grounded 2When you are the size of an ant, even an ordinary insect can be deadly. And if a spider appears nearby, finding shelter becomes the obvious priority. Grounded 2 once again shrinks a group of teenagers down to insect size, but this time it replaces the familiar backyard with a much larger park.Everything around you becomes either a resource or a threat. Blades of grass help build your base, equipment is crafted from the parts of defeated creatures, and a small puddle can become a serious obstacle. One of the biggest additions is rideable creatures. Certain insects can be tamed and used to travel around the park. Owning your own bug does not make you invincible, though. The park is still full of predators that would be happy to eat you.Grounded 2 is still in Early Access, so the developers continue adding content and refining existing systems. The huge park is already fun to explore, especially with friends. One warning: if you are genuinely terrified of spiders, even cartoonish ones, some encounters may still be unpleasant.Steam
ARK: Survival Ascended: Tame a dinosaur and survive the neighbor's raid
About the Game
Subgenre: Dinosaur survival, creature taming.
Players: 1, server-based multiplayer.
Pricing: Paid.
ARK: Survival AscendedARK: Survival AscendedARK begins in a fairly humiliating way. Your naked character picks up rocks on a beach while creatures wander around nearby, half of them perfectly capable of turning you into lunch. Eventually, though, you are flying around on a tamed beast and looking back at those first few hours in disbelief. How did you ever survive that first trip out of the bushes? You will probably spend more time taming dinosaurs than anything else in ARK. It is not just about building your own prehistoric zoo. Some creatures gather resources, others carry cargo, and others are useful in combat. At the same time, you build a base, craft equipment, and explore new areas. Survival Ascended looks much better than the original, but the prettier visuals come with much higher system requirements. You can play alone, but multiplayer servers create far more opportunities for memorable stories. Be prepared to spend dozens of hours gathering materials and hunting for specific dinosaurs. The game's technical optimization is still not perfect either. But if you dreamed as a kid about taming a Tyrannosaurus and riding it into battle, ARK is unlikely to disappoint.Steam
The Forest: Survival on an island of cannibals
About the Game
Subgenre: Survival horror, building, exploration.
Players: 1, online co-op.
Pricing: Paid.
The ForestThe ForestAfter a plane crash, you find yourself in a forest with everything needed for survival: trees, water, wildlife, and a suspicious number of inhabitants who clearly dislike visitors. The first few days can be spent building a comfortable camp. Eventually, however, you need to find out what is hidden inside the caves. That is where the peaceful camping trip ends. Most of the day is spent gathering supplies, crafting weapons, and reinforcing your shelter. Once darkness arrives, you start wondering whether going outside is worth it at all. The local cannibals gradually notice your presence and take increasing interest in the camp. You cannot hide behind the walls forever, though. Progressing the story requires exploring caves filled with creatures even worse than the island's ordinary residents. The first game looks noticeably simpler next to Sons of the Forest, but that does not stop it from being an excellent survival horror game. It also has a complete story that gives you a real reason to explore the island. If you have never played the series, we recommend starting with the original. And bring a friend if possible. Dark caves are at least slightly less frightening together.Steam
Icarus: An expedition to an alien planet where everything went wrong
About the Game
Subgenre: Sci-fi survival, expeditions.
Players: 1-8.
Pricing: Paid.
IcarusIcarusHumanity has technology for interstellar travel, so surely another planet means advanced tools, robots, and sensible working conditions. Apparently not. In Icarus, you are back to chopping trees, building shelters, and trying not to die because of the weather. Advanced technology exists somewhere. It just does not seem particularly interested in rescuing you.You regularly head out on expeditions for resources and complete different objectives. Between trips, you can build, improve tools, and unlock new technology. Even a well-prepared expedition can fail because of the weather. Local storms can destroy structures, so a simple roof is not always enough. And it is best not to pick fights with the wildlife until you have the right equipment. You are not limited to separate expeditions. There are modes that let you settle on the planet for much longer, build a large base, and develop your operation over time. Just remember that the game asks for a lot of resource gathering. If constantly chopping trees and collecting materials annoys you, Icarus may become repetitive fairly quickly.Steam
The Planet Crafter: Turn a dead desert into a giant factory
About the Game
Subgenre: Space survival, terraforming.
Players: 1-10.
Pricing: Paid.
The Planet CrafterThe Planet CrafterIn most survival games, we take everything useful from nature to build another house. The Planet Crafter gives you the opposite job. The planet is dead, and you are responsible for making it habitable. That sounds like work for several thousand years. Fortunately, video games let you speed things up.At first, you still have to worry about your own survival. Find oxygen, secure water, and build your first shelter. Then the more interesting part begins. You install equipment to heat the planet and change its pressure and atmosphere. The results are visible beyond the numbers on the screen. Vegetation starts appearing on the empty surface, the landscape changes, and familiar areas gradually become almost unrecognizable. The Planet Crafter does not constantly throw mutants at you or ask you to defend the base from other players. Most of your time goes into exploration, gathering resources, and building new machinery. You can do it alone or bring friends along and transform a dead world together. It is a great option for anyone tired of endless firefights and looking for a calmer survival experience.Steam
Dune: Awakening — Survive Arrakis without becoming worm food
About the Game
Subgenre: Sci-fi survival, open-world adventure.
Players: 1, multiplayer.
Pricing: Paid.
Dune: AwakeningDune: AwakeningArrakis is a terrible place for a casual walk. The daytime heat can kill you, water always needs attention, and spending too long stomping around on open sand risks attracting a giant sandworm. These are not just familiar details from the Dune universe. They are full gameplay systems you need to deal with throughout the game.During the first few hours, you spend a lot of time on foot, searching for shade and managing water. Later, you build a base, craft more advanced equipment, and gain access to vehicles. Traveling across Arrakis becomes much easier, but the dangers do not disappear. And if you decide to compete over valuable resources, you also have to deal with other players rather than only the environment.Dune: Awakening was originally built around multiplayer survival, but in September 2026 the developers added a full single-player mode. PvP rules also changed, giving PvE-focused players more room to explore Arrakis in peace. If you dislike long resource grinds and building, however, the new version probably will not change your mind.Steam
Pacific Drive: Your car is your only friend in the Exclusion Zone
Pacific DrivePacific DriveSome survival games give you a loyal dog. Others give you an entire group of friends. Pacific Drive gives you an old station wagon, and your entire life depends on it. Flat tire? Already bad. An anomaly storm starts and one of the doors suddenly refuses to close properly? Congratulations, you are about to have a very emotional drive home.Every trip into the Zone becomes its own adventure. You choose a route, collect resources, and try not to drive into another anomaly. Back at the garage, you repair the car, install new parts, and prepare for the next run. You have to watch everything from fuel levels to the condition of individual body panels. Ignore maintenance long enough and one day the car simply may not make it back.Pacific Drive does not ask you to build a huge base or fortify a fortress against enemies. Almost all of your attention goes into the car, which gradually transforms from a battered old wagon into a proper survival machine. There is something especially satisfying about limping back to the garage after a disastrous trip with half the parts damaged, almost no fuel left, and the car somehow still moving.Steam
Palworld: Catch creatures and build bases
About the Game
Subgenre: Creature-collecting survival, building.
Players: 1, co-op and server multiplayer.
Pricing: Paid.
PalworldPalworldImagine if the creatures you caught could do more than fight and could also be put to work at your own base. That is exactly what Palworld is built around. Some Pals water crops, others gather resources, and others help manufacture items. The strongest ones can come with you on expeditions so you do not have to deal with the local wildlife alone.Otherwise, Palworld resembles a familiar open-world survival game. You explore, collect materials, craft weapons, and build a base. Over time, much of the routine work can be handed over to Pals. With the right creatures, you can automate resource gathering, cooking, and production, then spend the extra time exploring and catching new companions. It is easy to lose several hours improving a base in Palworld, then head out for one new creature and somehow end up on the other side of the map. There is plenty to do, especially if you decide to collect every Pal. Just do not expect a hardcore survival simulator. Hunger and similar systems exist, but exploration, building, and creature collecting are much more important.Steam
Once Human: Free survival among bizarre anomalies
About the Game
Subgenre: Multiplayer survival, post-apocalypse.
Players: Online multiplayer, co-op.
Pricing: Free-to-play.
Once HumanOnce HumanThe world in Once Human is broken so thoroughly that even ordinary objects have stopped behaving normally. Mutants roam ruined settlements, strange creatures and anomalies appear everywhere, and any expedition can end with something completely different from what you originally went looking for. Of course, nothing stops you from ignoring all of that for a couple of hours and decorating your house instead. You gather resources, explore abandoned settlements, fight mutants, and gradually develop your character. There is also base building, and special creatures called Deviations can help with the work. That means you do not always need to travel into dangerous areas for another gunfight. Sometimes it is perfectly fine to stay home, improve equipment, or look for new helpers. The biggest advantage of Once Human is that it costs nothing to try. Download it, invite some friends, and see whether its world works for you. Just remember that it is a live-service game with changing scenarios, server rules, and content updates. If that does not bother you, Once Human is definitely worth checking out.Steam
Minecraft: The survival sandbox that never really ends
About the Game
Subgenre: Sandbox, survival, building.
Players: 1, online multiplayer.
Pricing: Paid.
MinecraftMinecraftYes, Minecraft still deserves a place among the best survival games. Especially if you have not played in years and remember little more than a dirt house, a wooden pickaxe, and Creepers waiting outside the door. So much content has been added over time that returning can easily feel like discovering the game again.Survival mode begins with familiar tasks: gather wood, make tools, find food, and build shelter before night. After that, you can do almost anything. Some players explore caves and other dimensions, others build giant farms and entire cities. Someone wants to defeat the dragon, while someone else is happy with a small house by a lake and a garden. Minecraft works especially well with friends, where everyone inevitably develops their own plans for the shared world.Minecraft is easier as a pure survival game than many other entries on this list. In return, almost nothing limits your imagination. You can spend a hundred hours building an enormous castle, then start a fresh world and go exploring with no specific goal at all. Even after all these years, Minecraft can still surprise you.Minecraft
Which survival game should you play in 2026?
If you enjoy difficult survival games where one mistake can cost you everything, start with The Long Dark, Green Hell, or Project Zomboid. You can die in all three without ever meeting an enemy. Forget to eat, fail to treat a wound in time, or head out without suitable clothing and the expedition can end on its own.For co-op, we recommend Valheim, Enshrouded, Raft, or 7 Days to Die. All four let you build a shared base, divide responsibilities, and spend dozens of hours adventuring together. If you also want to fight other people, look at Rust and DayZ. Just do not be surprised when you return home one day and discover that somebody has already taken all your supplies. And if you are tired of chopping trees and building wooden cabins, try Subnautica, Abiotic Factor, Pacific Drive, or The Planet Crafter. Instead of familiar forests and abandoned towns, you can explore ocean depths, survive inside a giant scientific complex, travel through an anomalous zone in an old station wagon, or terraform an entire planet. Each of them changes the usual survival formula enough to feel fresh for a long time.
